I guess that means that the market doesn’t expect the guy’s replacement to be a reformer that will put patient health above corporate profits. Who knows what the assassin’s (or his client’s?) motives were but the new guy probably won’t be a lot better than the old guy.
I know UHC has a bad reputation, but my employer switched to them for 2024 and they have actually been a lot better than Anthem was… at least once my spouse straightened out issues with her prescription which were due to communication breakdowns between her doctor’s office, the insurance, the manufacturer (for the discount) etc
(I’m not saying they’re great either… I’m not sure which is worse, the insurance companies or pharma companies, but at least the latter actually do make things that help people.)
First thing I thought of when I saw the headline:
Lovely. There is an SDA school right up the road from us. Of course, we are on the other end of the country, as well. People suck everywhere, though.
Do we know who or what group is using “deny, defend, depose” as a slogan?
Sounds like what the health insurance company does to me.
A hoist on his own petard kinda thing.
I think it’s the title of a book about america’s health-industrial complex.
Aha. It’s a play on this title.
I think it should have been “dispose,” as in medical waste.
Or as in deposing the ruler.
How am I supposed to order new toys?
So here is a fun story. Back in August our house was struck by lightning. I posted about that over at ToP. We have slowly had to replace our LED can lights as partially fried circuit boards give up the ghost. We had one of our heat pumps get fried as well. Ordered the new controller. It is still “in shipment.” Since August. No prob, said we, we still have the old oil furnace as back up. It was very cold this week, the furnace kicked in then stopped. Service guy said the controller on that was fried. OK, replace that. Furnace kicks on and stops. Controller fried again. Service guy come back and checks voltage. Somehow, the service to the furnace is feeding 210v. Issue with electric service, call the electricians. Now, a big thing to know is that my wife has people. She was able to get our electrician in within a few hours. Sure enough, 210v to the 120v furnace controller. So they turn the breaker off. And it is still feeding 210v. Guess something is fused in the breaker panel? Hell, I know nothing about electrical stuff, other than to leave to people who know how not to burn the house down. And it sounds like the goddam lightening was trying very hard to do exactly that!
Jeez. That’s pretty scary. Some electrician fucked up big time.
Hope not, the same guys who wired the house during the remodel are the ones working to fix this whatever-the-hell-it-is. Learning that lightning respects no rules or expectations, and can pretty much do what it wants.
