My mom was friends with a married couple. When I was in college, the husband asked me questions about US geography (most north, south, east, west included). I asked him to be specific about whether he meant contiguous, states vs. territories, even down to whether he considers international dateline or longitude to be the dividing point between east and west?
It goes without saying that he was really irritated that I anticipated his bullshit.

City of Rails. That’s a good way to put it. Although I never ride in boxcars.
It reminded me of something I wrote here, that there is no fly-over land when you are on a train. It takes longer, but is a more direct personal connection to everything.
