Well this is interesting

As a Franco-American meatball, lol, I think it’s fine that they go back, but am not surprised by the uproar.

Fairly recent design-- but glass harmonicas have been around for quite a while. You might have seen one in Mr Holmes.

This is going to sound odd because it was.

Last night as I was falling asleep I had very clear visions. My brain seemed to be slowly panning across a series of brightly illuminated photographs of places I’ve never seen.

Later, around 3am, I woke up for some reason. As I was going back to sleep I had a strange sensation in my head I can’t explain. Like part of my brain went to sleep and part of it did not. I closed my eyes to go back to sleep and saw clear, vivid, rectangular images. They changed approximately every 5 seconds like I was viewing a PowerPoint presentation. Each “slide” was made up of randomly-shaped pastel earth tones — yellows, greens, browns and blues. The irregular shapes were covered with text that looked like Times New Roman. However when I tried to read the text I realized it was actually small, black, repeating geometric shapes. I opened my eyes and saw my dark room. I closed my eyes again and the presentation was still underway.

So what caused this? An air loom? If I was Philip K. Dick I could build a whole novel out of this.

The transition from awake to sleep can very odd. I was in the bathtub once, very relaxed, and had a clear view of the taps, faucet, wall, end of the tub etc. What I usually see as I’m lying there. Then I realized my eyes were closed. I opened them and the scene changed somewhat. But not much.

I have no idea why such things happen. Sort of up there with sleep paralysis, where you’re waking up but your muscles are still paralyzed. Maybe when we’re really tired.

Andy Warhol by Richard Avedon, 1969.

I hadn’t realized the extent of the scarring. But how would I? It puts the song Andy’s Chest in perspective.

Holy shit. I had no idea.

I think they’re depicted in the Warhol Diaries, and they’re also in Edie: American Girl.

I think he wanted to see just how far he could go with the crazy people that came into the Factory, which followed him to his new office and studio. I don’t know that he wanted to get shot, as some who knew him say. But he certainly stopped pushing boundaries when it came to who was allowed in.

It’s just weird. And really unfortunate.
I read the story here:

Oh yeah. I mean, he had a multitude of health problems just growing up, and today would’ve been considered disabled just from those. The St. Vitus’s disease certainly affected his nervous system for years to come, along with other afflictions not as well-publicized.

I find that stuff fascinating.
Oliver Sacks’ book, “Hallucinations,” covers a some of those awake/asleep transtition phenomena, among other stuff, including hallucinations of other senses. The audio book is good, too.

@kxkvi - I have those “awake in the room but not really” experiences relatively often. After I got my covid vaccine I was getting those and would then launch into vivid lucid dreams every night for a while.
Can’t wait for my booster!

Interesting! That didn’t happen to me. However, years ago, when I went on lamictal to even out mood swings, I started having vivid (unpleasant) dreams, which IIRC is one of the known side effects (the vivid part). I’ve now been increasing the dosage in order to get off dilantin for a seizure disorder, but there’s been no change in dreams (other than being less unpleasant, perhaps). Hard to tell as I don’t remember them.

I swear, I post more in this thread because for some things, I’m never quite sure where to put them.
