The Dems (and any Reps who’ve had enough of the shitshow) would do well to determine and study all of the factors that led to that—and add it to this year’s “postmortem”. Yes, obviously there’s the politics and economics regarding the Soviet collapse, but I suspect there’s more. A fair starting point may involve seeing the Soviet states as analogous to US states.
