I remember seeing these things when I was a little kid, and just being kind of confused by them. Perhaps these are the kinds of things that adults find more engaging than children. I found the behind-the-scenes story of their development very interesting. No mention of the bird in Mary Poppins, strangely.

This is the Haskell Free Library and Opera house in Stanstead, Quebec, Canada and Derby Line, Vermont, USA. The black line on the floor is the international boundary.
In recent years it has become a meeting place for Iranian families separated by the border.

Ah, yes, as I watched further I saw that she’s in Toronto and that yes, they are electrical substations, at least the Toronto ones. There’s one in my sorta general neighbourhood that looks like a nice little bungalow.
