Well this is interesting

This drives me nuts.

The high winds magically appear at the Northern Ireland border, following the border’s undulations precisely.

It’s like weather maps in Minneapolis. The weather always stops at the Canadian border. But when they become the 51st state, that will no longer be a problem.

The local Detroit station I watch is evolved enough to mention the weather & temps in Windsor, Canada, across the Detroit River. The storm images also don’t end w/Michigan’s Canadian borders.

Not sure I agree with all of that, but it’s intriguing.

The areas under a red weather warning, issued by the Met Office, magically appear at the Northern Ireland border. Met Éireann issues weather warnings for the Republic.

It’s a good read. Altemayer knew his stuff. For once, Jimbopedia has a good summary:

Altemeyer first defined the right-wing authoritarian personality in 1981, as a refinement of the authoritarian personality theory originally pioneered by University of California, Berkeley researchers Theodor W. Adorno, Else Frenkel-Brunswik, Daniel Levinson, and Nevitt Sanford. Altemeyer defined the right-wing authoritarian personality as someone who:

1. is naturally submissive to authority figures that they consider to be legitimate,
2. acts aggressively in the name of said authority figures, and/or
3. is very conventional (i.e. conformist) in thought and behavior.

Altemeyer performed extensive research on authoritarianism, identifying the psychological makeup of authoritarian followers, and authoritarian leaders. His studies concentrated on who the followers are, how they got that way, how they think, and why they tend to be submissive and aggressive. He also collected data on authoritarianism among North American politicians.

It could probably could do with an update as it was published in 2006, but Altemayer died last year.

Yes, understood. But maps like this are still infuriating

That’s how the 1st line (“Hang onto the world as it spins around”) in this song came about: the lyricist slipped in the shower, grabbed at the nozzle, & those words popped into his head. (The song, as a whole, he wrote for/about Donny Hathaway.)

Surprised I sat through a nearly 2 hour long video about this, but it was interesting. I didn’t know how these ideas spread and morphed across different countries.
