On the upside, I loved A Quiet Place. My kind of scary movie, with the emphasis on the psychology. That I am pleased about.
āThe Brainwashing of My Dadā is now available on Amazon Prime. Havenāt finished it yet, but so far, itās definitely worth watching.
Itās about how right wing radio and TV changes people.
Sounds un-American.
Theodore Sturgeon famously pointed out that ā90% of everything is crapā. In the case of Netflix he was wrong ā itās more like 98% ā but 2% of Netflix is still a lot.
Iām convinced thereās no algorithm behind the suggestions. Netflix just picks something it wants to push at random. I ignore all suggestions, and rely on the critics and word of mouth, i.e. this thread, for recommendations.
As far as movies go, submitted for your consideration:
If you like your humour dark, or just always wondered how Steve Buscemi would play Khrushchev:
The old gang is back, twenty years later. Not quite up to the original but still entertaining:
On a lot of Best Ten lists last year, and I can see why:
Infuriating and heartening at the same time:
Bosch season 5 just dropped on Amazon, just in time to binge before I cancel Prime.
I canāt remember what offbeat documentary I watched, but I remember my recommendations just got way cooler after that one particular film. Explore the weird edges of your taste.
I predict that very shortly, there will be cable channels that feature nothing but a single show or movie series on endless repeat. The Harry Potter Channel, for example, or The Jason Bourne Channel. Thereās already a channel that seems to play nothing but Law & Order reruns.
Thereās certainly enough content for a Star Trek channel. Probably a CSI channel too.
Might this be a way to wean whole retirement homes off of Foxnews?
given that CSI is itself a spinoff of JAG, most definitely.
Thereās enough for a Bonanza channel too.
Wrong franchise: youāre thinking NCIS.
Please send a SASE to receive your no prize.
That was NCIS.
You mean NCIS and CSI arenāt intertwined shows in some way?
Not even in a Love American Style/Happy Days kind of way?
The channel that shows the mega marathons of Law & Order claim that have 451 episodes that they show back to back most weekdays. They intersperse it with what I consider forgettable programming, but thatās nearly 19 days solid of Law & Order, and Iām not sure if that includes Criminal Intent and all of the other variants. And even though it makes up the majority of their programming, you go to their website, and youād hardly know it.
If only.
Crimson Peak. Really good. Loved the costumes, and the house itself.
Ther are certain similarities between the Red āClayā of this movie, and the red āsaltā of The Last Jedi
The bluray had one of those Dolby Headphone Modes, which I chose for extra bit of moodiness.
I wonder how the movie would have turned out if del Toro had made a āGothic Horrorā film instead of a āGothic Romanceā which, you guys, is, TOTALLY DIFFERENT! Iām serious!
Finally getting around to watching Avengers: Infinity War. My, they did start the body count early.
I feel for Thor. After Ragnarok, sure, he became a better kind of camp, butā¦ damn.
Heās getting so much better at Earth cultural moments too.
The pacing in this is just bizarre. It would almost be better as a series of deliberate vignettes with their own titles, like The Ballad of Buster Scrags or Night on Earth.
Also, love the way Zoe Saldana says, āEnough!ā in that perfectly exasperated way. No wonder sheās had that line in more than one franchise.
