5th element. such a fun movie. Much more so than Valerian.
sort of like Weiner Dog?
Yeah, the slow white version. /MST3K
Iām re-watching The China Syndrome, and whatās hitting me this time is:
- Jack Lemmon can act the pants off anybody. Heās completely convincing, even though you know heās Jack Lemmon. The characterās back story is visible in every line reading, every movement.
- 70s cars were effing dangerous even when they werenāt in high-speed chases or running whistle blowers of the road. How the hell did we survive in those things?
- Most of the casual sexism in this film is on purpose and used for effect. Itās also dead-on accurate.
- This film needs to be re-released. Or else we need to make more films about consequences and less fawning hagiographies about the megalomaniacs of industry and technology. (Imagine the public heat Zuckerberg would have faced in the 70s media landscape).
- Jack Lemmon. Yeah, again. I might even like his drama better than his comedy. Even in the weird gun showdown in the control room.
An impressive achievement.
And his reviews are surprisingly evenhanded.
I miss the Bruno Mattei Show.
HBOās āChernobyl,ā week three. all i can say is, the makeup effects team and the actors deserve awards. talk about harrowing.
Just watched it. Donāt know if harrowing covers it.
yeah. maybe āhaunting,ā too.
I donāt know where to put this but its TV related so Iām trying here. When United lost my bag for several days I hit up a thrift store and found this.
I assume itās related to Stranger Things but my searching didnāt really get me anywhere. Does anybody know or have better google-fu than me? It might be because Iām doing this on my phoneā¦
FWIW Iām looking forward to watching season 2 of stranger things this weekend.
So let me get this straight: you lose your luggage for a few days, go to a thrift shop to get substitute clothes, and wind up with a t-shirt from an alternative universe, albeit an artificially created one.
I think we have to chalk that one up to fate.
Welp, it seems the new Tick didnāt survive the chopping block, despite the great cast and clever storytelling. No new seasons.
Oh shit, the Tick schtick didnāt stick.

Among the classic movies Iāve been watching recently, I included Disneyās The Little Mermaid because Iād never seen it before.
Live models. Access to computer assistance (Tron had been released 6 years prior) if necessary. Likely, a sufficient budget?
Iām gonna say it. The Little Mermaid is the most crudely drawn piece of garbage I think Iāve ever seen cross the drawing tables of Disney Studios. Not even the movies in the economizing era of the 70s were ever this poorly drawn.
Ugh. Just ugh.
Iām glad to hear someone else say that.
Huh. I just recently saw The Little Mermaid for the first time myself. I thought it was fairly great. Ariel definitely looked off-model a few times though. I specifically remember the scene on the shore after sheād rescued her future beau. That looked like it had been perhaps done by the crew from Heavy Metal.
Speaking of which, anyone else amused by the awkward avoiding of her naughty bits, shortly after her transformation? Two or three times she or the ācameraā moved in such a way that something untoward is almost exposed, and then we suddenly switch to a new angle. I thought, ok guys, are you going for laughs here?
I noticed that, too.
Almost prescient of, āHey, we know Rule 34 is going to apply here, and thereās nothing we can do to stop it. Have at it, fellas.ā
