Whatcha Watchin'?

I give him extra points for creating Automan with a VT100 terminal and a mainframe.

I saw the Fred Rogers movie. I liked how it played with the medium of film. It was nice to see a mainstream movie get innovative in the story telling. Tom Hanks did a nice job but still came off as a bit of a charicature. Still it worked well within the story telling device the director set up. I knew a few of the stories of Fred Rogers; still, nice to remember her genuine kindness.

I blame being sick on deciding to watch this.

I like the occasional B-movie schlock. But this pushed my limits.

it does have alien Hitler riding a T-Rex though

Aaaaand now I’m tempted to go watch Kung Fury again.

Just finished the last ep of Leverage.

Onto the next round of ā€˜binging stuff I missed 7-14 years ago, due to single parenthood.’

I remember those shows! Good, cheesy stuff…

I still love that show. It’s still relevant, all these years later.

[some spoilers]

Thinking back to my own watch a while ago… The imaginary friend issue, coupled with the ending (ā€œreminds me of a joke […] you wouldn’t get itā€, with the following free run of the asylum with bloody footprints) left me with the impression that most of the movie might or might not be entirely in his mind (yeah, that’s a real solid opinion, but just flow with it…). That would totally fit the character, but is really unsatisfying… and then it felt like the movie purposefully left open different interpretations for the sole reason of being difficult to pin down.
Bottom line… the contortionist things that Phoenix did for the character really creeped me out, and the overall film was interesting and probably worth a watch but it still ended up so ambiguous that it’s far too difficult to give a solid opinion on it.

Better or worse than the first one? And does Laibach still do the soundtrack?

And speaking of terrible films with some association with 1980s industrial music… we watched this last night…

The highlight was a brief cameo by Al Jourgensen… Really not worth it otherwise.

I’m going to say worse. Not without merit, but the first one had something I didn’t feel with this one.

The music didn’t stand out to me enough to say without looking it up.

I looked it up… looks like they did.

Thanks for the review, though.

Another terrible movie reboot scheduled for 2021, Dungeons & Dragons, with previous director Courtney Solomon producing. How does anyone think putting the same people in charge would make it worth doing?

I see why; in fact, I watched it on your recommendation.

Even more so now, I’d say; big business and ā€˜the evil rich’ have only gotten worse since the 2008 financial crisis.

Well, if they manage to make it more like the sequel, but better budget…

Nevermind…

Shouldn’t somebody be making movies from the works of Fritz Leiber before they have to dig down into secondary materials like D&D

I’m gonna guess that they wrote this article for people that didn’t actually live through the 80’s because I’ve seen all 10. In multiples, even.

ETA the list…

10: Altered States
9: Scanners
8: The Dead Zone
7: Escape From New York
6: Videodrome
5: Twilight Zone : The Movie
4: Dune
3: 1984
2: The Abyss
1: They Live

Uh, Twilight Zone: The Movie, a masterpiece?

I’ve only seen four or five of 'em, with one of the others sitting on my plex server waiting for me to get around to it…

Well, they needed a nice, round number, see?

I remember when it came out, my friends and I called The Abyss ā€œthe Abysmal.ā€ Although Rotten Tomatoes gives it an 89, so what did we know?
