I think It could be called coming of age cartoon. It is the story of the friendship between two girls who share a love for Japanese-style comics. As time goes by, the doors to the world of comics open for them, but will they be able to get through?
It doesn’t have any of the mannerisms and clichés of the japanese cartoons for boys and the ones for the girls, or that dreamlike and surreal atmosphere of Studio Ghibli. It feels more like a well-defined cutout of a period in the lives of two girls from the Japanese countryside who want to follow their dreams.
