Whatcha Watchin'?

Weekend Update is usually pretty good, and the biannual joke swap installments are can’t miss humor and a great example of how to tell race and gender based jokes without being racist or misogynist. The rest of the show? It’s usually pretty forgettable.

Yeah, and other good bits pop up on my feeds. But sitting through the whole show, live?

Oh I haven’t watched it live in decades lol.

So we apparently will get to watch the Coyote vs Acme movie after all. I hope it doesn’t suck.

My guess is that its probably just ok, but i am glad its seeing the light of day instead of being locked away. Someone is bound to enjoy it.

Agreed. It was not good. :rage: Lazy comedy aimed at the lowest common denominator.

We watch it each week… some combo of all of that… plus, sometimes, it is funny. :woman_shrugging:

Yeah…

I finished S1, despite my reservations.

It was satisfying enough.

I watched only 1 ep of S2 and then stopped there; having seen this review, I’m glad I did. I really appreciate spoilers when I go seeking them out, as a way to avoid getting too attached to a narrative, and then just ending up disappointed.

I have no interest in storytelling that completely forsakes its’ initial premise; in this case, the mystery of what Lumen’s goal actually is.

So far, the first two episodes of Daryl Dixon is much more satisfying than Dead City. I was skeptical that they’d explain how he ended up in freaking FRANCE in a post-apocalyptic world, but they came up with a satisfying enough explanation that seems to be plausible enough given the circumstances of the universe that they’ve built. I mean, it’s all just an excuse for Norman Reedus to hang out and film in France anyway, so…

I liked the second episode, where you got back story on the Nun Isabelle that he’s traveling with now. They ended up at a former school, which is not full of children lacking most adult supervision, who have settled into a way of life that works for them… but someone has dug into a nearby castle and has been hoarding any and all major resources around the local community. Turns out the guy was an American, and when Daryl goes in, the guy is like I’M AN AMERICAN SO ARE YOU and this provided a funny moment from the episode…the moat around the castle is full of zombies, of course, and so Daryl and the couple of kids there (one who he rescued, the other who is the sort of leader of the group of kids), are leaving, bringing the ugly American with them, there is a struggle and Daryl and the guy fall into the moat, and as the zombies come to eat the guy alive (with Daryl deftly avoiding the zombies, cause he has main character armor), the asshole screams GOD DAMN IT… I’M AN AMERICAN…, which frankly, is pretty much a good summation of MAGA right now…

That sucks. I haven’t watched or read anything about S02 but I had heard the original creators had some kind of falling out and one of them quit. Damnit

I bailed on Walking Dead after maybe S2 or S3, so pretty early in the show’s life. Not necessarily a criticism of the show itself, the writing, or the source material. I just have a harder time watching bleak or darker shows as it involves more of an emotional cost for me, and after a certain point i get tapped out. Had the same thing with Breaking Bad, i never finished it. Yes i know its amazing, i enjoyed every episode i watched and hit a wall where all i could feel was anxiety for the characters.

More specific to Walking Dead i also had a realization early on that no matter what, there is no end game for the show. Its a show that puts its characters through a grinder of pure misery, and after a while that gets old for me but i dont have any kind of judgement on folks loving it  hope i dont come across as too curmudgeonly.

That’s just my take; hope I haven’t spoiled anything for you.

Heh, that was more or less why I stopped watching Seinfeld, of all things. I just couldn’t watch the characters suffer anymore due to their own selfish behavior.

Oh no, I totally get the not wanting to watch such a dark show (with regards to both Walking Dead and Breaking Bad)…

Dead City didn’t land with me at all, which was a bummer. Like you said above, Maggie and Neegan are both really compelling characters, and with their history it should have been good ground to tread. But not so much.

Daryl Dixon, though. I loved it from start to finish and will probably watch it again at some point. I need to get back on AMC+ for season 2. I also need to catch the last episode of The Ones Who Live, because I was doing a free trial that ended the same day that episode dropped.

They’re all on Netflix now, the first seasons, at least. So if you have that, you can watch them there.

Yeah, so far, Daryl Dixon is quite enjoyable compared to Dead City.

Oh, thanks for the tip! I don’t have Netflix at the moment, but there’s a few shows there I need to catch up with, too.
