Whatcha Watchin'?

And the answering machine messages at the beginning of each episode! My favorite: “This is the message phone company. I see you’re using our unit, now how about paying for it?”

In interesting timing, this was just released yesterday:

I watched the last season of Sandman and my verdict is: I don’t know if I didn’t like it. It’s a joke, I made a bad joke, ok. It’s not bad, but it was a bit rushed. I think I thought that because I had read the comics before watching this adaptation and I liked the comic book version better. They must have spent a lot of money on this show and that justifies having released everything even after Mr. Gaiman revealed himself to be one of the 10 most disgusting men in literature and other arts.

I kept waiting the whole time for Tom Sturridge to start singing “Bring on The Dancing Horses” when he wasn’t wearing a wig.

He was wearing a wig most of the time, right?

Family… It is complicated.

That looks delightfully surreal! Some of the elements remind me of House…

It has some supernatural stuff, but it is more whimsical than scary, after all is a comedy about an oddball family.

Yeah, totally comes off as whimsical…

At this moment we are watching this miniseries:

I really like Mr. Kore Eda’s films. We’re still in the second chapter about a family struggling with the patriarch’s extramarital affair. Four sisters end up reflecting on their own beliefs and the role of women in Japan. At least that’s what I understood.

Sometimes the japanese sense of humour is hard to get. My wife liked a lot. I like to sing to this song. Yama, yama, yama, yamaaaaaaaaa…

I somehow missed this movie and have never seen it. After watching this short documentary on it, I’m gonna have to find it and watch it.

Hausu is such a great wonderful and nonsensical movie! It is in fact, delightful.

And if you enjoy it, I’d add the following:

Frankenstein Girl vs Vampire Girl

and

Psycho Gothic Lolita

and of course,

Hellevator

They’re all more modern, but carrying on that tradition of surreal ridiculousness that was in Hausu. Or at least, that’s how it seemed to me. I’ve watched them all multiple times.

It’s so great… Julie Delpy even makes a cameo…

Richard Moll is in it… and BUD CORT!!!

Natasha Lyonne is so great…

Anyone else remember this show…

This is sort of an annoying presentation, sort of slop-adjacent stuff… but…

Pamela Adlon!

Yeah, that makes sense to me.

I loved it! Kind of a counterpart to the Irish show Bad Sisters!

Oh. I have some fuzzy memories.

I do. Well . . . I remember that it existed. I don’t think I ever watched it. It was basically a ripoff of Ferris Bueller. That’s as much as I know about it.

That’s it. That’s what I wanted to remember. It was a generic version of the Ferris Bueller movie. But I think they later found their voice, or not, I don’t remember.

I wanted to slap Ferris Beuler’s smug mug throughout.
