we just watched the first episode, and honestly, even though we snarked through it, overall we are IN for the time being. there’s just enough of a modern angle to it that we’ll suspend a TON of disbelief to see where it’s going to go. we totally love the new Robbie take… it’s “war of the worlds”-ian to me. and i’m very looking forward to Parker Posey’s take on Dr. Smith.
that being said, we were commenting constantly about why they weren’t freezing to death, or how they had air, or why couldn’t you see their breath if it was so goddamn cold, etc. – so, yeah, suspension of a certain high level of disbelief is required for sure.
I noticed the metric/Imperial thing too. Yeah, they seem to have the visuals all in metric, but in English all the measurements are in Imperial.
It does seem to be for the benefit of Americans. I would take this opportunity to point out, however, that ST:TNG and all the STs after used metric and were all successful shows.
So, just got done with season 1 of Frankenstein Chronicles… Does the hanging and resurrection of Mr. Marlott count as a death for Sean Bean? I mean he’s going to be around for the next season as a Frankenstein’s creature… Was he really “dead” then?
Anyway, it was quite enjoyable and I look forward to the second season of the show.
well, this is just me, but i would say YES – i was totally surprised by it but also took it as Sean Bean’s sly trolling of the “Sean Bean always dies” thing. i thought it was brilliant.
We’re finally beginning to get programming languages that force unit definition as part of the type and won’t compile if you don’t do the conversions. Still a ways to go before that becomes common though.
