This was my first attempt at a lidded box. Decided to make it for the guy who takes care of the ranch next door as a wedding gift out of the walnut tree that he and i had to clean up after it came down in a storm and crushed his fence and some of my fruit trees.
The contrasting colors are absolutely gorgeous and I love the detail work inside the lid. Just wow!!
Beautiful! I guess one good turn does indeed deserve anotherâŚ
WOW!
what are the lines? inlays of some sort? beautifully done!
I finished the cabinet frame and temporarily installed it to see if my family even notices it.
The clear satin polyurethane matches the cabinets well. Itâs a little less yellow, but some sunlight should even it out with the rest, and itâs in an area that gets a lot of light.
In some places, the wood is a little too nice to match the cabinets, but I can live with that.
Very clean lines! It looks good. I like the ripples in the wood and the darker stippling (is that the right word?).
I wonder if your family will not only notice but ask all the cabinets be replaced as well.
@Docosc good work bringing the beauty of the wood out for all to admire. Anyone would love such a pretty box
Thank you! The ripples are chatoyance in a fiddleback pattern and the darker stipples are birdseye pattern. I suspect this piece of maple wouldnât have lasted long in the scrap bin if it had all of one pattern or the other, but both occurring in the same area isnât desirable to many woodworkers. I donât mind it, though!
I embedded bits and pieces in epoxy. I hate waste, and thought it would be a fun experiment.
That is so beautiful
I had a little synesthesia-adjacent moment looking at it - like I know what the finish feels like if I were holding it. Dreamy!
Maple is magnificent.
first success, Iâd say
Drone-adjacent improvisation on modular synths, software, some bass guitar. Inspired by suspended chords (sus2/sus4) and by suspending audio in delay buffers, long reverbs and spectral FX. Free/pay-what-you-want.
Notes on the gear/production are here.
