I have not, but would the USian equivalent be powdered ranch? Slightly embarrassed to say that I want to try that on mac and cheese.
We’re in that period when the last of the Christmas panettoni haven’t quite disappeared and you know the Easter ones aren’t far away.
I’ve turned the last Christmas one into bread and butter pudding.
putting this here so i can look at it later:
cool!
i see some old favorites on that list. is Chuy’s still down by Barton Springs? loved that place! Hyde Park Bar & Grill (the fork in the road)? i lived right around the corner from that place when i was at UT! can’t say i remember the mac-n-cheese, but that was 40 years ago.
I think the Chuy’s on Barton Springs should still be there, i had a project with them a few years ago to run a new gas service for their test kitchen behind that location (which used to be offices). I have heard that Chuy’s pushed to expand in the last 5-10 years and their food quality has gone down, but i’ve only been maybe once or twice so i don’t know their food well.
Hyde Park Bar & Grill should still be there Mother’s Cafe across the street, a long time vegan diner, has closed down though. And a few buildings over Quack’s Bakery is also nearby and is one of my fave bakeries in town (if you know of it).
The quality definitely went down, particularly after the majority stake was sold to some venture capitalist firm (parasites) in 2006. Then the whole company was sold to a huge national restaurant group that owns a bunch of places like Olive Garden and LongHorn Steakhouse
Thanks for the link!
I’ve heard similar things with Kerby Lane. Franchising and expending and food quality going down, which i’m inclined to believe long time locals but as someone that’s been here for the last 10 years i find their food to be good. I don’t go often but they’re good for the occasional brunch meal.
With Kerby, it can vary a lot but location and if they are fully staffed. Most of the time it is good, though I can understand a lot of people not caring for the prices.
They’re moving the HQ from Austin. Don’t recall offhand exactly where, but I think to Florida.
Yep,. somewhere in Florida.
I wish I could find a good recipe for the boom-boom sauce on the enchiladas and refried beans
The recent experiment on refried beans was amazingly, the batch we did together turned out better than the one my partner did alone. I was all “there has got to be a reason for the oil and the flat pan! Just stirring the beans in the big pot can’t work.”
The ones we did together were meh but edible. The ones he did alone? Not so much. Which was weird, since he’s usually a wizard in the kitchen.
The pintos we started out with were weirdly pale. So maybe it was partly the base ingredient?
TIL that ICL has a chemical kitchen.
This is a Puffle available at a boba tea place I visited today. I was already quite full or I’d have ordered one.
The ones I saw in person looked amazing. As long as the kid isn’t sick, we’ll go there on Monday.
It’s essentially a soft waffle with gelato inside, topped with various fruits, syrups, etc. they have a few configurations on the menu or you can do custom
ETA: the place is called Frosty Fox. They have locations in several states. The jasmine green milk tea was very good
That looks amazing!
The cooking waffles also smelled amazing. Such a cute little cafe too! Now am hoping even more that the kid isn’t actually sick or all the rest and fluids make it really mild (there has been some sniffles and coughing and two besties had the flu last week)
I really want to try one and see her face when they are presented to us
Oh yes! It seems a thing of joy and wonder!
Happy Lemon is another place around town that makes these (and probably others too), they’re great though if you wanted to be more enterprising you can also get the waffle makers for these
Ah, no waffle makers for us. My partner, who does at least 90% of the cooking and makes delicious food for us, is really particular about what takes space in the kitchen. He’d concede if I really wanted one, like he did for the air fryer, but I don’t.
He admits the air fryer was a good idea
Besides, some of the allure is going to the cute cafe and relaxing while we eat. It wouldn’t be as special if we made one at home.
