Sounds like purple ruffle basil? Looks like you can get seeds for growing your own
That might be it!! Thanks!!
Hmm, now what else can I order to make it worthwhile to pay the $4.95 shipping cost for up to $29.99 of goods…
i made these two dishes today, on what is apparently new year’s in Sri Lanka (i did not know that).
fried egg curry and fish patties.
the fish patties are really good. i used a tin of Iberia boneless sardines in water, little yellow potatoes, added a chili pepper and skipped the dill. tasty and kinda cute. the pie dough came out perfect and the turnover style patty held together!
nice snack!
recipe makes way more than six patties!
Does anyone else sneeze when you chop onions? I never cry, but I always sneeze
Sometimes. It does tickle the nose; almost, but not quite, entirely unlike champagne.
Now you have me looking up onion wine…
Well, it’s a thing…

I’m not a winemaker, but maybe I should try making some onion simple syrup!
I know this as homemade cough syrup. Onions and rock candy.
My hard cooked egg “ flower “. Needs some work.

That might be it!! Thanks!!

Free shipping, today only!
I had put it off, thinking it was a little late to start them, and maybe I’d get some next year…but I just ordered two packets and got the free shipping
(Thinking I’ll plant one packet this year and save the other for next year…I know seeds are packed for the current year, but some should still sprout next year, shouldn’t they?)
Just wanted to mention it in case anyone else is interested in their seeds/plants/goods. Looks like they are located in Maine, so I imagine the free shipping would end whenever it’s midnight in Maine…
ETA: I posted this in the gardening thread too, because it’s applicable for general gardeners too…
Lovely! Please let us know how the purple ruffle tastes.
I typically like purple basil. Then again, I like every basil I can remember ever trying
I’ve seen Basil ruffled, but never turn purple.

Looks like they are located in Maine,
So they are! I was unfamiliar with them. Johnny’s Selected Seeds is one of our go-tos, but I’m going to check these guys out. Thanks to you and @mindysan33 for putting them on my radar!
It was @Kii
Very close to you, Clutch Linkey, I think. But it looks like they only sell online?
I was looking at the email they had sent me about yesterday’s one-day sale, and I see that although they are in Maine (Eastern Standard Time) the sale ended at 11:59 pm Pacific Standard Time. So I was wrong in guessing that it would end at midnight Maine time. That seems really nice of them—I like that. Or do most online places do that?
Thanks @ClutchLinkey and @zfirphdn but it was really blind luck! I do hope the company’s seeds germinate like little purple bosses though.
I remembered I’d heard of a basil with ruffles, searched, and then linked to a decent looking place that had the seeds. It’s a pretty looking plant.
I like to sometimes cut the basil flowers for the table. Not too much- the bees like them too. But I’ll cut a few to arrange with some of my roses. Smells nice and the green obsessed cat will sometimes avoid the roses for a few days. And the basil won’t make said cat sick if she decides the smell is worth the green.
She yells at me if I go out to the garden and do not return with cat grass
I searched occasionally over the years since I had it, and never did find any myself. So I appreciate you finding it!
Tonight I made Bun Cha, not to be confused with “buncha”, as in “buncha fives”. There are noodles under there, somewhere.

Something I need to be reminded of often. Yes, I’m very lazy and also have executive problems up the wazoo (the difference? laziness is fun), but the cultural expectation of being productive every waking moment isn’t healthy either. And the business of feeding ourselves is especially fraught these days.
