And this sort of shame still exists, though I am glad Ms. Hargitay now absolved of hers.
Although so-called reborn babies have been available on the market for years, only this month for some reason, the country saw a sudden surge of interest in these hyper-realistic dolls. Some demagogic congressmen even proposed laws to prevent the dolls from being brought into public hospitals (although no one has ever heard of such a case), Another one proposed huge fines for those who use reborn babies to skip lines at banks and supermarkets, and in Rio de Janeiro, a councilor created the day of the reborn stork. I believe that all this fuss was amplified by the fact that this is a hobby that mostly involves women.

Yeah, like it takes a high level of coding to use AI…
“The current trend in the adoption of AI tools appears to mirror this disparity, as the skills required for AI are rooted in Stem disciplines.”
For realz, tho!
It’s because women my age were purged from the tech jobs shortly before ai became the norm.
And why would you go back to work in that field to compete against boys with AI in a hateful misogynistic climate if you could retire or do literally anything else and get enough money to get by. I sure as fuck don’t want to. Hope I never have to. Meanwhile girls have been driven out of tech jobs since forever no matter what the Internet says.
We discourage girls from even going to school now, but two decades ago was not the feminist utopia some children of the internet seem to believe.
Tbh ai replaced women most likely in the first place.
Yep. Dudes decided it was a “prestige job” now so the women in the field had to go… But of course, it takes no special skills to us AI anyway, certainly not a deep well of STEM knowledge or whatever the fuck.
I’m kind of sick of people making AI out to be some magical thing that needs all these skills… it’s just not. Women who are avoiding (like myself) are smart enough to know it’s crap.
Honestly it doesn’t even require much intelligence imo. I wrote music also. Writing music is objectively harder and requires stronger interpersonal skills both to advocate for and improve ones work but is perceived as less smart than coding.
Both I guess are being replaced by ai.
^^THIS^^
I think most of us are just waiting for it to blow up in techbro’s faces. Once they’re no longer able to rely on AI and robots to help them think and cope with life (or pretend that’s really working out well for them
), we’ll be perfectly positioned to charge top dollar for offering common sense solutions. Maybe we need a union, crone collective, or coven…
She also had that baby out of wedlock. Why aren’t conservatives outraged? I’m surprised they didn’t call her a slut, although I wouldn’t be surprised if I found out she was offered the Press Secretary position only if she got married. She got married just a few days before the inauguration.
To be clear, I don’t care about any of this. She can have a kid, in or out of wedlock. She can take care of him if she wants to, and I think it’s great that she’s allowed to bring him to work with her at the White House, if that’s her wish. What I care about is that Republicans love to shame ordinary women who do any of that.
Exactly… This whole “well wimmins just don’t understand computer” framing is fucking absurd.
Which is just amazing, if you think about it. And far too many people just buy that shit uncritically, that using AI is some high level activity, when, WTF are they talking about…
That reminded me of something an acquaintance said to me. They were telling me since I like writing music why wasn’t I so eager to play with this ai that will even pick the notes for you. I just didn’t know what to say in that moment but it was so depressing.
Hopelessly Late Rant provoked:
Like I don’t pick the notes to confirm my OWN humanity motherfucker? Like I don’t read paintings for the hand or listen for pain in a human voice?
I AM the meat ai here. That’s the whole point of it? Or else what? Why bother. Just have the ai pick the most popular things based on an average and crank that out day after day night after night as the one true song of all people? Who cares about it though? The constant noise that signifies no one and nothing? Why would I want to consciously give myself to that and spend even a minute of my real life as a sacrifice to cranking it out of yet another mortal horn?
Why don’t bodybuilders just use robots to lift the weights!? Why not a forklift?
Because I don’t need a damned program to steer my hand?
Like I’m all for it in terms of efficiency. As in, programs that make the tedium of editing easier. Smarter filters all kinds of amazing stuff. I’m super excited about that!
But in this context it’s like “ugh but this lets people who don’t care to think much about music make the music” was the vibe and… fuck that.
I don’t even do this for money, I literally just do this because I want to so why the hell would I throw away the part that makes it FUN in order to make pennies on soundcloud cranking out shit I don’t even really want to hear based on judgements I have to wrestle an AI over? Grind your organ somewhere else tech bro!
And as a corollary… Fuck that tech bro lazy ass belief that AI is better than us because it doesn’t have emotions and all the stupid fucking shame and emotional idiocy that goes into this unfortunately all too common belief. There are definitely specific tasks where controlling human choice programmatically makes sense to a limited degree (driving is the classic example). But this is not a rule of thumb for all human choice. Also as it stands with AI this control is not an objective machine making the best possible decisions but rather simply a vehicle for the decisions of previous humans that are prioritized over others and then adjusted to the whims its own creators and/or the vibes implied by some old data.
Humans that care about humans are better at leading humanity and always will be.
The best use I ever got out of AI is when one of our third party library vendors offered a $25 gift card to answer survey questions about it. I truthfully answered that my company had no plans to implement anything AI related, so I didn’t have to answer any further questions. I spent the money on cat litter.
