German comedian and late night host Jan Böhmermann has submitted this video commentary to the NYT’s comment section. In addition to being funny it’s actually a pretty good explanation of the AfD’s role in current politics for those that don’t follow German politics closely.

I wish that could change people’s minds.
Two trips ago to Germany (for work), we went to Berlin. My guides were very somber about the war and very explicit about their role in it. Emotionally so.
I don’t think I’ve ever met an American who displayed that level of emotion on our issues of slavery, what we’ve done in wars, or even the Civil War (what we did to ourselves). And I know when I was in school, even the topic was fairly lightly covered. My kids got a much more intense version, which I felt was more appropriate, if painful to learn.
If there were a communist revolution in the south, I think that would destabilize the Juche regime in the north.
