The AI Hallucinations of Dorian Gray
The Dorian invasion?
Yes! Summoning the next dark age!

Harry Shearer had a longer-than-usual āNews of AIā on Le Show this week. (Link cued up to the relevant portion, 38:43) Note (perhaps TW) that it includes coverage of an AI-related suicide.
For those who donāt regularly listen, the ātheme poemā intoned by Ralph the Talking Computer at the beginning of the segment is something that Shearer told an AI (I forget which one) to generate (with the basic prompt along the lines of āwrite me a poem about AIā).
The intro at the beginning of the show is worth hearing, as well.
@j9c already posted a link to the Verge article quoted therein; there might be others already posted here.
Man I need to start listening to Le Show again.
It got crowded out of my headspace and waking hours about 8 years ago.
Thanks for the reminder.

Wait, what? āKidnappingā an AI/LLM? How would you⦠Why would it⦠What the fuck did i just read?
With soaring summer temps ahead, AI data centers could strain electricity supplies in the Delaware Valley
Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware are among 13 states serviced by PJM Interconnection. Federal regulators say the growing demand for electricity is ānot sustainable.ā
How can the pirate industry survive if you canāt loot ships?
Speaking on the side of automation, i do have to say that while i did take Excel classes in HS and have had additional Excel training at work i find using and remembering where is what, what sub-menus to use, etc is just like kryptonite to my brain. I can do it but it takes immense effort and it drains me, i hate it.
I had to set up a fairly straightforward excel spreadsheet today for a specific work task that also needs long-term tracking and reporting to management, it needed to also be part of a collaborative live sheet for my team so there were some functions that needed to be set up in Excel. I thought itād take me all afternoon, so as a hail Mary i asked copilot if it could just do it for me. It kind of couldnāt but it did give me macros with instructions for Excel to set up all the categories i needed, drop down menu data, etc.
Frankly i wasnāt expecting much but i ran it and it worked. Took me all of 5 minutes (or less) to fiddle with.
ā¦you would basically kill the AI industry in this country overnight.
