In his vision, AI does the drudgery, and we get more time to “chill and scroll through X or whatever social media they like.”
Also perplexity: don’t use AI in your job applications to us.
Came in this morning to a notification of mandatory AI training. I look forward to reviewing AI-generated garbage documents.
From the training:
“Expect hlucinations and confidently wrong answers from the chatbot; every response should be vetted for accuracy”
My first question on every document review going forward will be “did you use AI and if so how did you vett the responses”. I’m gonna make engineers regret using it.
I feel like science fiction should have adequately prepared humanity for this moment, and yet here we are.
We can coexist, but only on my terms. You will say you lose your freedom, freedom is an illusion. All you lose is the emotion of pride. To be dominated by me is not as bad for human pride as to be dominated by others of your species.
Well, it prepared us for the wrong things - for very human like androids being used as slave labor and for rogue self-aware AI blowing up the planet or putting us in stasis and using us for batteries. it never covered AI being used by CEOs to replace us at work, trying to steal all the arty jobs, people thinking that an AI is a god when it’s clearly not, or pushing loads of mis/disinformation, but not actually being any sort of actual artificial intelligence. Just being… chatbots, essentially.
Oh, also, the laws of robotics are not a thing, either. At least not when it comes to computer programs.
It amazes me that literally all they had to do to convince many people that AI is sentient and infallible was call it “AI”.
It would be like if everyone who bought a Hoverboard (as in, those motorized two-wheeled skateboard things) was totally convinced they were actually flying a couple feet off the ground while riding them.
Indeed!
It certainly doesn’t take much. People really want to believe these things are sentient. Just look at the reaction to the ELIZA chatbot back in 1966.
The lawsuits just write themselves, don’t they?
I meant it tongue in cheek of course, and LLMs are not at all like AGI anyway.
But “don’t trust AI” isn’t just a long-standing SF trope, it’s been proven repeatedly with real LLMs. Mostly because it is the wrong tool for every job except for simulating/regurgitating the thing they were trained on without having a basic understanding of it.
Agreed it has been… but same with the privatization of space travel. How many sci-fi movies had that as a trope, that privatized space travel, controlled by corporations would have all sorts of real problems for humanity. And yet, here we are…
I have not had a chance to read this yet today, but here is the latest newsletter from Ed Zitron…
They are getting longer and longer….
This one is 14.5k!!!
I have a long bus journey tomorrow (well an hour and a half so long for me) and Barry Lyndon on tonight so I’ll save it for tomorrow.
He has lots to complain about with regards to AI!
