When the proposal was first came up, to use AI to speed drug approval at the FDA, I just assumed the “AI” being used in drug approvals was a proper AI of some sort, not an LLM, because that would be insane. Yet…
All these government departments using LLMs to do their work are really going to permanently screw up the functioning of the government (at least until a thorough purging takes place at some point in the future), which I presume is the point.
I think that’s an added benefit. Transfer of capital to the oligarchs is, I think, the primary objective. Disciplining the intellectual, scientific, and artistic communities by starving them is also an important objective. But making the wealthy scum who paid for your government even richer is the primary aim.

Ricks has not said publicly why she dropped out. She alerted the school district on the same day Chalkbeat and BridgeDetroit asked about the survey responses. …
Why AI chatbots lie to us | Science
A few weeks ago, a colleague of mine needed to collect and format some data from a website, and he asked the latest version of Anthropic’s generative AI system, Claude, for help. Claude cheerfully agreed to perform the task, generated a computer program to download the data, and handed over perfectly formatted results. The only problem? My colleague immediately noticed that the data Claude delivered was entirely fabricated. …
So, to limit these fabrications, he focuses on a specific setting called “temperature.”
“If the temperature of AI is 1, they hallucinate,” he explained. “For the medical field, it has to be 0.3. That makes them so strict, they cannot fantasize things. They stick to the facts.”
The idea that AI already has a “don’t lie” switch that could completely solve the problem of garbage AI hallucinations making internet searches useless, but that 99% of techbros are too lazy, evil or ignorant to turn it on is disturbingly plausible.
