Any tips for non-painfully incorporating cats in yoga

Booties

Not sure how well cats would endure booties, but there are soft claw coverings that can be applied which may help. We tried using them for a while on one cat, they were a little bit of an ordeal to get them all applied but theyā€™d work fairly well until the claw shed a layer and youā€™d have to find the discarded covering.

trim their nails! i know itā€™s hard when they arenā€™t used to it, but i started when our kitties were younger by just touching and pressing the pads of their paws, exposing their claws, just as often as i could until it became something they just know that i do, and itā€™s not going to hurt. then once they are used to that, i just quickly clip a nail or four, depending on how relaxed and patient they are feeling, and i never clip too close. you can see where the cuticle (?) is underneath, so you can tell how close you can go. it also helps to just do it very calmly, talking to them softly the entire time. i tell them how good they are, and that this wonā€™t take long, etc. ā€“ iā€™ve found if you try to hold them in a death grip, they tense up and freak out, and you wonā€™t get anything accomplished. but if you are calm and gentle, they will be relaxed too.

I would add that the hint for not clipping too close is donā€™t trim into the pink. The trimmings do tend to go everywhere. :smile_cat:

We could do this with only 4 of the 7 cats weā€™ve had over the years, though. The others were like, no way!

yeah, i think thatā€™s what i was trying to say - not to the pink! thatā€™s too far. i think itā€™s best to start when they are kittens, but you might be able to get adults used to it after awhile, but it would be harder. i hold our catsā€™ paws whenever i can, just to get them used to the idea of me handling their paws and nothing bad/scary/uncomfortable happens. nowadays, i can hold a front paw and gently squeeze it, and they will gently flex their claws and ā€œsqueezeā€ back ā€“ we take turns going back and forth like that. i love it. Iā€™ve mentioned before that I may have fructose malabsorption. I do have bad diarrhea, and often migraines, after eating apples or other fructose-rich fruits. It also interferes with absorption of other nutrients, including zinc. The local grocery store doesnā€™t carry zinc supplements. Iā€™ve ordered online, will see if they do any good.

So my endo wants me to check with my neurologist about my migraines. I have sent 2 messages to my neurologistsā€™ office since early June and havenā€™t had any reply. Not even a ā€œnot in the officeā€ or ā€œwaiting listā€.

And my general practitioner wants me to see an out-of-network dermatologist. I canā€™t find billing info, and when I tried to contact their billing office, they need an appointment number to reply.

Any idea what to do about this?

Contact your endo and tell them the problem. Same with the GP. If you have to be pushy, do so as politely as possible, though I donā€™t think I need to tell you that, lol.

Good luck!

You need an advocate. I know that the cancer world is good with this, providing all sorts of ancillary services to ensure that nothing slips through the cracks for the patient. If your endo office doesnā€™t have consultants/support staff to do it, maybe one of the nurses would agree to advocate for you?

So, my husband and i have taken up bowling. we figure itā€™s a healthy activity, easy to learn/hard to master to keep the interest going, and has a low cost as far as sporty activities go (especially if you can get the senior discount, haha). anyone else here bowl? aside from youtube, weā€™ve been casting about for places to ask questions as noobs. Reddit isnā€™t really helpful.

I used to, and my dad won some trophies and bowled regularly in leagues for a long time.

I canā€™t imagine itā€™s changed much, so ask away!

i donā€™t really have anything specific to ask yet, weā€™re still too new ā€“ just weeks into it, really. but iā€™m sure something will come up sooner or later. every time we go weā€™re figuring out stuff, like for instance i have learned that with the ball i have, my natural inclination is to throw a hook. itā€™s apparently the way i throw combined with the weights in the ball. and while my ball CAN go straight, being able to do that is trickier for me.

My dad would tell you to keep your arm and wrist straight so as to not hook the ball.

from what iā€™ve learned, your dad would be 100% correct. thatā€™s what iā€™ve been doing to get a straight ball, and it works!

It was ground into my head, as heā€™d use me as a practice ā€œdummyā€ opponent sometimes before his league started their season.

Apart from the Covid-19 vaccines which I had earlier this year, and hve cards for, is there any way to find out what other vaccines I have and have not had, and may or may not need?

Apparently Iā€™m supposed to rely on my vaccine records. Ni haba Ć¾o. I donā€™t have any such records. Iā€™m supposed to be able to check through all sorts of medical records I donā€™t have and donā€™t think Iā€™ve ever had-- illnesses when Iā€™ve had health care, immunization, antibiotic exposure, etc.

Your local or state public health department?

Thatā€™s all I can think of.

I havenā€™t had luck getting info from previous doctors (and why would they care when Iā€™m no longer a patient?). Even doctors in the same system (hospital + doctors + specialists all under one brand name) donā€™t communicate or seem to have systems that can do so.

I pretty much just go into every new doctorā€™s office with a blank record and ask them what they think I should have at my age (if I think of it). Sometimes they give me a tetanus booster or something, or tell me to get the flu shot. They just assume Iā€™ve had the standard MMR etc. childhood vaccines.
