I don’t want to see people hurt, killed or to lose everything. At the same time, the Mississippi river will do what it will, regardless of what we puny humans do.

And “Fishing for Fungal Cells” sounds like a Wal-Mart bargain bin game in which everyone’s a winner.

In her 2018 book The Big Ones: How Natural Disasters Have Shaped Us (and What We Can Do About Them) , Jones argues that the destruction of churches and temples can be particularly devastating for societies.

Will AI and the Singularity be the new UFO scare? I’ve met people at work who have a distinct UFOlogist look on things, verging on flat-earthing it, and they are the ones trying to sling AI solutions at everything. They aren’t necessarily wrong when it comes to bill-of-material analyses, but it must be an alien way of life, in itself. I guess it’s like the second coming of Deity X or a racist pogrom or something.
