Beautiful photo, but a reminder that humans cause destruction by excavating and by dumping, often in the same place:

For some things yes, for some things no. I think at this point we are fighting a sort of metaphorical rearguard action ā€“ the front is lost, but our efforts still determine whether there is a retreat or a rout.

July was the hottest month ever recorded on Earth, with temperature edging 1.7 degrees Fahrenheit (0.95 degrees Celsius) above the 20th-century average.

Meh, 1.7Ā° is nothing. If I take my temperature twice in a row the difference may be more than that. In a single day, the difference here may be 40Ā°+ between low and high.

north of the Arctic Circle hit a stunning 94.6 Fahrenheit

Oh, I guess maybe it adds up.

I wish the press did a better job of communicating what a couple of degrees change actually means in these articles. Because itā€™s always there like ā€œOh no, scientists predict that temperatures may rise by as much as 3Ā°!ā€ As it is, that just gives more ammo to the climate change deniers.

Exactly. Word it in a way that makes it more clear, not more easy to dismiss. Otherwise, itā€™s not journalism.
