Luckily, Florida has a housing insurer of last resort, backed by state coffersā¦
This is terrible news
Quite demoralizing. If weāre surrounded by people who wonāt wear a mask in a pandemic, there is no long term hope for human civilization. I just hope the next dominant species on the planet is better than we are, because we are fucking this up Real Badā¢.
The inhuman part of me says, āWell, thatās fine: Those folks will die and to hell with them. Letās hope their deaths will teach others to do betterā¦but I doubt it.ā
Letās face it: Human civilization has been teetering on the brink for how long now? And just which civilization are we talking 'bout here? Because thereās more than one.
Going to share this with my son, born in October 1988; I graduated high school in 1982; started driving w/a license in November 1980.
living in Reno, just downwind from Tahoe, i can tell you itās been very surreal and awful. weāve had ash raining here too, but Tahoe is a whole other level: our AQI has been running in the high 200s and low 300s, but south shore of Tahoe is high 300s and even into the 400s, basically off the chart.
the scary thing is if the fire reaches the Tahoe basin. the area is so dry that iāve heard that firefighters are terrified that the whole basin will go up like a bowl of matches.
I just saw another headline about Tahoe. Are yāall doing OK out there?
itās baaaad. before this morning, i couldnāt imagine them evacuating the south shore of Tahoe (or ANY of Tahoe, honestly), but thatās been happing all morning. on the NV side of south shore, the casinos are now initiating the shutdown of the gambling, and that will escalate over the next few hours. Sierra-at-Tahoe ski area has apparently burned, and they saved Kirkwood ski area by using the snowmaking guns to shoot water over the area. Homewood on the west shore is getting closer and closer to being in danger.
ā¦but down in Reno weāre ok. (thanks!) ā actually the winds have shifted and weāre getting the least amount of smoke from the fire that weāve had in weeks.
Oh, Iām glad to read that - I thought about you and yours first thing when it saw the article about it in my AP daily e-newsletter.
My grandpa used to have a condo in Incline Village, right near David Coverdaleās place. I guess thatās on the wrong side of the lake.
yeah, thatās on the northern and eastern side (NV side) of the lake, so other end from where the fire currently is. but that fire is moving again ā itās moved 2.5 miles in the last day or so, and itās headed north.
A little less āthe world is going to endā and more āplease, let the world endāā¦
You saw that headline and thought: āThis canāt possibly be real.ā Alas, it is very much a real thing thatās really happening in America in 2021. The asteroid cannot come swiftly enough.
For weeks, an unknown man has called libraries around the country asking for a specific Supreme Court opinion to be read to him.
Whatever jerks your gherkin, I guess.
