There is a thread called Possibly Untrue Science Facts that I have dropped what I would have put in Science FTW at TOP.
Oh, right, I forgot about that…thanks!
I would prefer to have a Science FTW or similarly titled thread, i think the “possibly untrue” part is ambiguous. But ultimately whatever people gravitate towards will work
I took the position that I would not make a bunch of new threads if there were ones here already. I can get used to the new titles easily enough. Over at TOP I just put “Science” into the search bar, it worked here too.
Funnily enough mine was in the announcement thread. Oh, the irony!
Also includes one of my most favourite threads about the life-ending playground equipment.
Alright fine… here is mine… I had at least 2 that topped out at 100…
Top 2…
It’s a little wild that my top too like getters were those, which are relatively brief, and I’ve had some long ass posts that made some kind of historical argument that don’t seem to be top like getters…
don’t tell the others, don’t want them to get jealous!
I tried to even it out over the years, but it’s challenging when some folks cough * especially @Nightflyer and @subextraordinaire * just don’t talk as much as you and I do!
Yeah, some good times in there.
I first found BB back in about 2004/05 or so. Back then, it was included as one of a list of “cool recommended links” in Firefox, (along with stuff like pitchfork, and slashdot). So this doesn’t scratch the surface of the amount of time I’ve spent here. But all the pre-BBS comments, back in the days of disemvowelling and disqs- that’s all been nuked long ago.
It was fun, you know. Starting off by mainly lurking, then gradually dipping my toes into commenting (I had opinions about tea). And it’s been fun times on balance ever since.
Memes, forum games, sharing interesting articles and so on- it’s been a good way to spend a few years.
Some of my posts still make me laugh even now.
Looking back, I’ve no idea how I managed to get away with only being modded about four times, a couple of which have me looking back and saying “worth it”.
ETA- Oh, the safe thread, how could I forget that. All that fuss and we got some dank carpet!
Exactly so!
Well. I feel like i need to know What’s your favorite tea memory?
My favorite cup of tea was when my dad went to India and brought back a mystery bag of strong black tea. As a coffee drinker it was really wonderful, quite strong and you just had to make it with milk and sugar. I’m sure hardcore tea aficionados could narrow down what it likely was, though this is reaaal close to what we had
Stats, I’ve had a few.
This is my best one. People talked about something that matters.
And I just requested anonynization so that a good thing doesn’t get me hunted down when it gets ported to Substack.
SMDH.
Very strong and black tea, from India, in a big mystery bag.
Probably pure Assam. Was it reddish when brewed?
Assam has a reputation for being strong, and it’s very plentiful, so gets used in a lot of blends. Pure Assam will be very rich and strong.
I do believe so, i recall that when you were to add dairy to it the tea ends up having an orange-ish hue so i think that tracks with the reddish color you mentioned. And the tea was loose, but looked like little pellets almost. I know there’s a term for it, learned it somewhat recently but it’s already escaped my brain.
Yeah, I didn’t want my info to get on that site and come back to haunt me either. I hate that all the advocacy and education I did on there is now attributable to anon<bunchanumbers>, but given I don’t know how things are going to play out politically over the next little bit, I prefer not to leave such digital breadcrumbs if things go pear-shaped.
