What does Enable defer to mark topics unread
mean?
My English isn’t very good. I find stuff like a an the etc hard and I really don’t get why pronouns need genres. In Finnish it’s so much easier.
English: A dog.
Swedish: What?
English: The dog.
English: Two dogs.
Swedish: Okay. We have: En hund, hunden, Två hundar, hundarna.
German: Wait, I wan’t to try it too!
English: No, go away.
Swedish: No one invited you.
German: Der Hund.
English: I said go away.
German: Ein Hund, zwei Hunde.
Swedish: Stop it!
German: Den Hund, einen Hund, dem Hund, einem Hund, des Hundes, eines Hundes, den Hunden, der Hunden.
Finnish: Sup.

Finnish: Koira, koiran, koiraa, koiran again, koirassa, koirasta, koiraan, koiralla, koiralta, koiralle, koirana, koiraksi, koiratta, koirineen, koirin.

English: This must be a joke…
Finnish: Aaaand… koirasi, koirani, koiransa, koiramme, koiranne, koiraani, koiraasi, koiraansa, koiraamme, koiraanne, koirassani, koirassasi, koirassansa, koirassamme, koirassanne, koirastani, koirastasi, koirastansa, koirastamme, koirastanne, koirallani, koirallasi, koirallansa, koirallamme, koirallanne, koiranani, koiranasi, koiranansa, koiranamme, koirananne, koirakseni, koiraksesi, koiraksensa, koiraksemme, koiraksenne, koirattani, koirattasi, koirattansa, koirattamme, koirattanne, koirineni, koirinesi, koirinensa, koirinemme, koirinenne.

Swedish: Breath!!
German: Whattaaa?
English: Okay, now you’re just making things up!
Finnish: And now the plural forms…
And I know better but still I have to ask I can’t say vittu in English here?
I suppose it depends on the context. I’m not expert on translation, but in English we have three common words (ordered here roughly by intensity) that seem like they can convey a similar meaning. I wouldn’t recommend using them unless you absolutely feel they are necessary. I’m not a fan (no pun intended) of gendered insults in general, so I wouldn’t be surprised if your post gets flagged when using one. That said, I’m pretty sure all three have been used here at least once.
[EDIT: should I cross-post this to the Site bugs? topic?]
Alas, the Discourse site doesn’t offer any solutions that work for me, although I did see a couple possibilities on your side (listed below).
- admin
email editable
setting - Allow users to change their e-mail address after registration setting
It’s not a huge deal at the moment, and I know you’re super busy with the BB flood and other matters, but if you’d put a pin in this for later, I’d appreciate it.
BB preferences > account:
Elsewhere Cafe preferences > account:
It’s tricky. It started as a question, and then became a configuration issue. I don’t think either approach would be wrong in this case.
No matter, as I’ve enabled that setting, which is normally on by default. I’m not sure for what reason it was changed, and I can’t think of any reason to prevent users from changing their email addresses right now, so I’ll leave it enabled for now.
Please let me know if that resolves your issue.
Is anyone else getting virus warnings about “icegif.com” (or something like that)?
Not overly worried, just keeps happening when I roll past other users perfectly innocent gifs.
I haven’t, but I just went to that site and it has serious Geocities page from the late 90s vibes, which is not what I would consider an encouraging sign.
Which site?
It seems to happen when I either scroll over someone else’s pics, or choose an emoji.
I have not pinned this down, but if it feels like an issue, I can do a little more research, I’m sure.
YAAAAS
It worked
icegif dot com
Let me know if you figure anything out, I can block links to it if it’s too suspicious.
Right, think I know the prob.
I managed to visit there for all of two seconds before AVG blocked it on my behalf.
I think a lot of gifs/memes/whatevs are sourced either directly or indirectly from there, and I think AVG may be being a touch sensitive.
Still, this isn’t your issue to sort - you’ve got your hands full with the rest of the Ex-People.
You instantly triggered a memory with that:
What is the “New” option on the front page when it’s available? Stuff I’ve dismissed before can show back up, and there’s often newer stuff in “unread” that’s not in “New”
Trying to figure out why I can’t see or don’t have an ignore feature here. Is it a trust level thing? I’ve applied the mute option but it doesn’t do what I want, which is to not see posts or anything else from certain users. In the technical thread @womanhood_deferred (thank you!) suggested ignore appeared when particular users’ profiles were clicked on but I haven’t tried that yet. I’m that opposed to interactions of any kind with people I want to ignore.
More people from the U.S. than the U.K. and Australia combined, so best not.
I think it’s here, in any particular user’s profile?
I don’t think we can know if anyone in particular has viewed our own profile…
You will notice that the grey box above that says “Normal” has a little triangle indicating it is a drop-down. In it, you should be able to select “Ignored” and you will no longer see messages from that user. I know it works because I have used it. If you do not see that option it may be a TL-level function.
