Or perhaps “ARTHUR!”

Brief tangent:

I live in a Victorian/Edwardian historic district, on a street called Avery. The biggest house in the neighborhood is a smol mansion a few blocks N named The Avery. All the woodwork is mahogany, and the staircase is positively cinematic.

Could you please point me to this thread? I’d be infinitively grateful.

That happened to the Reader Rant board on Capitol Hill Blue a while back (waaay back, ~2006 IIRC). It was coaxed back into existence, but I’m not sure it really fired up properly. I hung out there a bit in the 2000’s and last poked my nose in about 3 years ago. The RoundTable topics are by quarter now, no longer daily.

At least Discourse is fairly open, and I see there are some plugins that support fediverse features. I realized that BBBBS was the only place I’d set pen to paper on some anecdotes, so was a bit panicked that it all shut down so quickly. At least I was able to get some stuff exported.

I don’t suppose you are in the market for a jacket?

Not if it smells of Hugh Hefner.

From what I’ve seen, I doubt you’ll find one of those here.

And you’ve plenty of help around, rely on that.

And there’s Tim.

(He made me add that bit, bless him, he’s just trying to help).

Sorry to respond to this twice, but I have confirmed empirically that a new discourse instance can be set up (manually) in an hour or so. To be fair, I already had a domain and email service, so add a little time for that. I’m sure it could be speedrun in less than an hour with some appropriate route planning.

ok every @#$! clock set back one hour. couldn’t we stop doing this? (“Well there is legislation to accomplish that, but because it has to go to the House of Representatives…” @#$!)

But is there such a thing as a non-Euclidean smoking jacket?

Yeah there’s a lot of circadian hate going around (headlights these days, house lighting for super confusing fell elements on when it is you’re really holding a dinner party, park lighting that’s 5900 K in color remp.) I dunno, there could be orbital transfer stuff where changing your clock around instead of looking for the one sun in your solar system and when the body of your Dyson Sphere is going to be providing shade checks out. Just make all the legislation outperform the killer web demos with friendly controls on the graphics and it won’t be so tempting to be the Squirrel and Goat Story Provider (c.f. Acting City Animal Health Mugudugu and Kidnapping Pets Talentlessly) to Rest of World.
