BoingBoing move to substack

Oh, involuntary raise of the eyebrows there for a microsecond, before I realised that this is the first day in, what, four-ish?, years that I haven’t even bothered to visit TOP.
My own toolbar bookmark will be deleted soon.

I did the same. I use an extension on Firefox that gives me a grid of websites I like to access regularly. I just replaced BB for this place.

The only bookmarks I have left are from my stories threads. I think I’d already posted them to tumblr, but will soon check and delete them.

It all feels so unreal. So relieved most of the people I love are already here!

I unpinned the other place and deleted the bookmark, both made me feel just as bad as anonymizing. I then moved elsewhere from just a bookmark to a pinned tab. That provided a little relief due to the number of people who made there way here.

Speaking of which, I wonder how many it’s been.

I see that 263 users are here now (some dormant of course), but I have no idea how much that’s increased in the past few days.

I don’t think it’s been a lot, at least compared to the number of people at the other place, but this place is way more active now than the entire time I’ve been here.

I also requested it, but I’m still showing up, too. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Ken finally anonymized me last night.

Mine just took, but you should be up soonish?

You can do a direct message to Sekhmet and Orenwolf
(if DMs are still working; they were supposed to stop by today)

DMs are no longer working

They have always had a rather narrow definition of what counts as an ad.

I assume Substack has rules on what they have to disclose and there the traditional “We can do whatever we want and we will forever be the good guys, because zine.” doesn’t work.

Btw. now I am curious if all the recurring right to repair/John Deere coverage was a paid campaign all along.

All of the articles on the “new” BB are marked “PAID”.

:person_shrugging:

EDIT: I think PAID at the top of the post indicates it’s for paid subscribers only:

Maybe it means you have to pay for a subscription to read them? Or maybe to comment on them?

Yeah, that’s what I think.

Seeing the word PAID at the top of a post without any context does make it look like it’s a paid-for post, e.g. an ad or promotion.

Ah, that makes sense, although it seems like an unfortunate choice.

damn, i was fooled by the JohnDeere posting that lacked any poster’s name but said “Paid”. …didn’t then go and check all the previous ones. i apologize to the old BoingBoing folks for making a presumptive accusation. “Paid” doesn’t mean …paid for. That is: nevermind

Yeah, Just paywall.

So does anybody have the scoop of why Cory and later Xeni left Boing Boing?

Is there tea there or just on to other things sort of thing?

I started a Political Cartoons thread. Do let me know, oh Seasoned Ones, if it treads too much on an existing one.

I thought that posting the word “moist?”
