I’ve been reading it a bit. I don’t really mind throwing them some eyeballs. But I don’t feel like talking or anything on there either. I think I’m just going to spectate.
This place is most certainly pinned to my new tab page on firefox and i think the switching cost coming here has been very low indeed when so many have made the move across and it’s the same forum software. I would engage more with the community over on substack but a) it’s just too quiet and b) the user experience is profoundly unsatisfying.
Managing fine here. Elsewhere has easily replaced BoingBoing for me, and I think I like it better here. I’ve been checking in on BB every now and then to see what’s being posted, but discovering that articles of value and interest were already few and far between over there and I don’t miss it as much as I expected.
I peek at the new site from time to time but it is just not the same without the community. Coming here is a much better experience.
We just need the GIF plugin and i’m golden
And reaction emojis.
Here I was playing around on reddit trying to get things going and looky here.
This is kind of nice.
As far as Substack, meh, the articles are nice but the interaction, whether comments on articles or chat, seems like the dark ages.
I think I remember the history of why this was setup but whatever the reason, it’s very nice.
Whoever is running it, thanks.
And a lot of those, or rather the topic they were about, had been harvested from threads in the comment section anyway.
I surprised myself having an easier time removing Boing Boing Feed from my “News&Blogs” tabs.
Just for comparison, Anandtech anounced closure a bit more than a month ago, and still haven’t had the spirit to remove it from my rotation.
I think it was easier because it was not a removal action but “moved site” one.
For me it was pretty easy to remove, because the way they went about it betrayed a complete lack of respect for the thriving community they’d built. I feel the loss, but at the same time, no love for what remains. Like a toxic ex, more than a dead friend.
I have to admit that now my news tab looks really sparse:
Local news / National News / International news
Local Tech / International Tech
News Agregation (don’t try to open the comments) Site
Geek things (electronics) / Geek things (videogames)
Boing boing was my “news agregation (make sure to visit the comments)” Site
I need more of those. News sites are more difficult to parse every day, news agregators helped me sift the chaff a bit.
I always read this topic as "BoingBoing move to Sleestack.
Charming.
Sounds actively hostile to the community.
I’m missing it less and less.
Beautiful tune, you should put it in the jukebox too.
