Wut?
I think if anybody signed in with the account Ken offered, theyāre āregisteredā there as a user, and maybe thatās why it came up?
I checked it out when it got announced, so my 'nym might show up on their list at some point. Iām not playing in that sandbox so I donāt care, but itās still kind of weird.
On the BBās SuS homepage, they make it look like the three most prominent/active subscribers are @mindysan33, @KeybillyJefe, and @danimagoo (avatar only, no name).
I agree with @Nightflyer that anyone who accepted the free subscription (like me) is going to be part of their ā20.9K+ other subscribersā, but why list posters who are NOT actively involved there so prominently?
I donāt understand the algorithm.
Sheesh. Now Iām even more glad that Iāve never even visited that SuS version of BB.
Thatās what I tripped over, figuratively speaking.
I think I know why, I donāt think itās a software āmistakeā but deliberate, and Iām not happy about it.
Not happy at all.
Lion On, even!
wow. aināt that a kick in the nards.
i received a notification from SuS, early in the shake up stating that jason had āfollowedā me on that platform.
not sure what to make of that, but my interaction there was minimal and brief, so not sure what prompted that.
Thereāve been so few follow-up posters that youāre still in the lead?
beats me
Popped over to SuS just now and after some quick looking around i just had to stop. Looking at that wasteland just makes my heart hurt, itās just sad.
Yeah, I take a peek every now and again, too. I really did enjoy reading the articles and then engaging in the comments. Itās like a ghost town.
doing a specific search for my name here I get BBS results on DDG starting from the sixth result. The other ones are either my mastodon profile or not me. I was hoping using the same nickname as the most famous president of the US - at least for good reasons, like being an awesome vampire hunter - would be enough to dilute my social presence but alas, seems Abe the Honest is not exactly common
(there are other reasons for me to have the nickname but are not relevant to the discussion as much as ādilutionā was).
For what itās worth, I think the logo is a great design. I āgotā it immediately the first time I saw it, so I think itās pretty good as an amalgamation of two objects that donāt intuitively go together. Iāve never seen St. Elsewhere but the snow globe thing is such common knowledge that it was easy to make the connection.
When I got the thing, it had already signed me in (because I have a couple of SS newsletters, such as HRC, Erin in the Morning, and Timothy Snyder)ā¦
I think since the first week that this was announced, Iāve been over to check it outā¦ maybe twice or three times at most?
I just looked at itā¦ I donāt think I even posted once in the chat feature thereā¦
At first I thought it was something like this:
but clearly the logo doesnāt have the spout and second handle.
I think I commented on 2 or 3 posts the first day. One of those was to report a problem, which I donāt even remember now. Anyway, I havenāt even visited BB since that first week. So if Iām one of the 3 most active, that tells you something. That there is almost no activity there. Itās a ghost town. If thatās what they actually wanted, then congrats to them, I guess. If it isnāt, I hope they all feel like shit right now.
This happened with Gawker media as well, although it wasnāt the original owners that did it; it was several owners down the line, unlike BB.
They disrespected the commentariat, pulled support for the commenter blogs, then shut them down, and ultimately pretty much closed up shop. I havenāt been since the zombie of Jezebel was revived, and I have no idea what the place looks like now.
So thatās the pattern, and it looks like itās playing out at BB.
