Letā€™s hope not! They definitely did it over there, though.

Eh, we can keep (or discard) the old traditions here as we choose.

Considering itā€™s a reference to BB itself, it works for me.

I donā€™t even know the origins of it, now Iā€™m quite curious.

I still like lookinā€™ at 'em.
But the one above?

Well, just look at the state of itā€¦

that the banana thing reminds me of Cory, i still get a smile at the thought of all those very silly posts.
that said, i can take it or leave it :person_shrugging: .

eta: @OhHai , there was a period when Cory Doctorow would post silly things and ask us to look at thisā€¦ (like plastic banana slicers) and simply append the post with ā€œjust look at itā€.

I just know that bananas were associated with ā€œjust look at it,ā€ but Iā€™m not sure why.

Maybe someone who was there longer can help?

Ah, now it all makes slightly more sense.

ā€œFuckinā€™ years, man, thatā€™s how long I waited. Did they clue me in? Let me know? Did they fuck! Itā€™s a goddam heartless regime, I tells ya.ā€

ā€œForget it, Dog, Itā€™s boingtown.ā€

i donā€™t think it ever made sense, nor does it now. it just became a meme in its own place and time. a meme that continued long after its origin was faded in memories.
thatā€™s why i am still fond, but as we move ahead, we can drop some old bags at the door.

Maybe some donā€™t like it because it carries a slight whiff of the old place?
I would get that.

It was a fun thing, but then we have plenty of scope for new fun things here.

I donā€™t know about Jez, but the AV Club is looking as though itā€™s getting revitalized. Splinter is even back. Iā€™ve not revived my account but I see a lot of old names in the comments and even some old authors are back.

I think they were all sold off to different buyers, and I guess some had more invested in bringing the old formats.
