Hmm?
None of that seems to be happening at this here bbs.

Sorry, I meant TOP.
Ah thanks okay, phew. BB, not BBS.
An inspiring piece from Jeff Atwood (AKA codinghorror). I know some here have mixed feelings about him re: slowness in adding new safety features at TOP, but Discourse is (obviously) an awesome platform and I believe that Mark and Jason did him (and the Discourse team) dirty with the sudden switch to Substack. From this article he seems to be a thoughtful and stand-up guy.
Also, I took a peek the other day at activity on the Substack site (I follow BB posts via RSS so rarely make a direct visit). Most FPPs struggle to get into double digit comments, if they get any comments at all. Rob is the only author who evinces a desire for community engagement, but heās basically shouting into a ghost town (having created one with the old BBS, theyāve ended up with two).
I donāt know whether to or

Donāt get me wrong-- I appreciate the acknowledgement, but the siteās gone. Basically the only reason I saw this at all is because I misclicked on the still-open tab (I know, I know, but I havenāt had the heart to close it out yet.)
Iām very grateful we have our space here, where we can continue to enjoy our community.
My problem with Jeff was never just his foot draggingā¦ it was myopic political views on women. He was a bit retrograde. Here, heās again centering himself and HIS experiences as the ārealā Americaā¦ as if the struggles of the rest of us arenāt real or donāt matter. YMMV, of course!
Congratulations!
āMy family and I gave $8 million toā¦ā
Itās nice that they can do that, and itās nice that heās getting others to do it tooā¦ but again, that wasnāt really my problem with Jeff.
He said it more than once.
AFAIK that is the last one of those.
Oh, I get what youāre saying. I remember those conversations on TOP. (Are we using āTOPā now for āThe Old Placeā?)
^^^ that part
Yeppersā¦
For those of Yorkshire heritage, it is pronounced TāOP.
He seems like a decent enough guy, yes, but he suffers mightily from techbro syndrome. Heās often wearing privilege blinders, and is unwilling to reconsider his beliefs once challenged by others.

Eh, I have a hard time feeling too bad for him. He got his massive windfall when StackOverflow was bought out a few years ago. Heāll be just fine.
That being said, Iām glad heās using his wealth to try to do some good.
Like I saidā¦
You got me curious, so I went back and saw this. Anniversary after the doors were closed.
Itās like a train wreck. Canāt look away.
TOP is on permanent autopilot. Until someone decides to break thru the cockpit doors.
You can still like posts.
Not too late to earn that āCrazy in Loveā badge!
