I felt the same way when G/O Media dumped the commenter blogs. Like here, we were able to reconvene on another platform, but we lost people.
Perhaps a Hindenfuck should be a new unit of measurement of just how much someone does not give any.
âMy airfield is devoid of Hindenfucksâ
My Hindenfuck has exploded and burnt to nothing.
Oh no.

not my cup of tea, and yet, is exactly what I needed now.
Very much not my cup of tea either (Brainwash & Bullit) but every now and then I need it.
If it was on spotify i would add it to the list i have for exactly that purpose:
(TMW = That mood when)
I listen to EinstĂźrzende Neubauten for that, among other purposes. YĂź-Gung (FĂźtter mein Ego) is esp useful.
20k+ subs? Thatâs hard to believe. I wonder if someone is padding the numbers? And I wonder how many views they are getting?
A bunch of us got free subs when they moved. Iâm sure they count those. No clue how many it was, though.
We can do an informal check here and see if it tells a story.
- I was never on BB
- I was on BB and got a free subscription when BB went to Subs
- I was on BB and did not get a free subscription when BB went to Subs

There were just over 100 recipients in the message that was sent out about the free subs
Oh, right; I forgot about those. But it canât have been anywhere near even a thousand.
So weâre talking about $600K a year income before expenses at that level.
Good for them. No idea what the expenses are and how many ways it has to get split.
Or if 20K+ is accurate.
BB has zero interest in padding subscriber numbers. BB would have to care about metrics first for that to matter!
There is a very large subset of BB readers who have always asked for a ad-free, store-free BB and a subscription model to support us. A large number of them chose to subscribe, and has been exceptionally positive for BB as a going concern as a result. As Substack gives us more tools we intend to continue to expand the features for ad-free BB. Hopefully they update the community features with the plethora of suggestions and requests we have. Theyâve been receptive so far but of course development takes time.
I hope so! My goal was to try and ensure the best of the community had lifetime memberships! As Iâd said elsewhere, timescales for BB measure in decades, and Iâm sure the features we have for subscribers will look very different long-term from where they are now, and wanted to ensure as many community members as possible could choose to jump back in (or continue to use an ad-free BB) for as long as possible.
I was pretty active / engaged on BB for ten years, but clearly not among âthe bestâ.
Yâall threw a life line to a handful of selects, apparently hoping the chosen ones would establish a colony in the New World and the lesser users would follow or be replaced by others.
I recognize and appreciate your immense contributions to the old BBS, but I wonât pat you on the back for this one.
Not only did you (plural) crush an active community with almost no warning, you did it in a way that seemed almost calculated to divide what was left. Maybe that was JLWâs doing.
How nice for all of you.
