A fairly spiffy podcast about Jack the Ripper on film and telly. Begins with relevant audio from Amazon Women on the Moon, so we can tell they’ve done their research.
I’m gonna be the spoilsport here and say that if presented as fiction, these might have worked for me, but presented as things that really happened to the tale-teller, well, my eyes did a lot of rolling.
i liked the one about the hand.
That one was really strong. I liked that one and the one about the crawlspace. I’ve seen true crime docs where squatting-via-crawlspace was a way of hiding out.
Perhaps it’s because I’ve been reading Reddit’s /r/nosleep, but I take their lead when it comes to scary stories. They are true, even if they are actually obviously not, because it’s more fun to read them if they are “true”. Even if they’re not.
Well, perhaps the really big problem is the lead up, “the 10 most frightening stories you will ever hear.” That’s a lot to live up to.
Oh for sure, headline inflation is ridiculous.
Well, I enjoy this every year. I don’t assume they are all real, tho. Just a bit of fun, yeah? But YMMV.
I suspect the inflation is the point.
But they don’t have heads with googly eyes…and thank you!
The ones we know about don’t have googly eyes.
Who knows what Secrets Humanity Was Not Meant to Know lurk in the ocean depths?
Not a starfish, but fits the googly-eyes requirement:

On my way to see the Sisters of Mercy.
I’d make a joke about them playing right before Halloween but Andrew Eldritch would probably stab me…
