Wil Wheaton has said that you always have the chance of getting one of two Shatners, the sort of arrogant, condescending, self-absorbed dick or the kind and charming guy who makes you feel welcome and seen. Apparently his neighbor is Henry Rollins and Hank has said he enjoys hanging out with him. They even did songs together on a Christmas album recently.

I agree with you and i’m glad Nana Visitor put the kibosh on the writers creating a romance with a tyrant who participated in genocide against her people. I also find it fascinating that DS9 took two thinly written species from TNG (particularly with regard the Ferengi) and turned them into multi-layered characters.
