Daaang! Tom Tomorrow absolutely nailed Spock as written for Ethan Peck!

Kinda meh on Mount’s Pike, but four and half stars. Would recommend. Would read again.

Please explain. Is it “just too many BIPOC characters”? Is it “just too many queer characters”?

From Screenrant, some details on the Star Fleet academy series…

One of the most exciting Star Trek: Voyager Easter eggs in the Star Trek: Starfleet Academy trailer confirms that Harry Kim (Garrett Wang) was promoted to Admiral. In the shot, several Academy cadets stand in front of a wall listing the names and ranks of Starfleet icons—with “ADM HARRY S.L. KIM” appearing near the bottom of the fourth column.

Harry Kim, the only person who was likely promoted directly from Ensign to Admiral!

In other Trek news…

Alexander Siddig unexpectedly popped up in my headphones playing a giant centipede policeman in the Doctor Who audio drama Sisters of the Flame. Unfortunately his character was pretty much wasted in the second half of the storyline, but he was great as a very polite and helpful bug cop (that’s how you can tell it’s science fantasy- not ACAB).

David Ellison’s Skydance has been involved with the franchise since Star Trek Into Darkness (2013), giving the company over a decade of financial and production ties to the brand.

If that is indeed the case, that means Alex Kurtzman and his Secret Hideout production company are out when the contract expires next year, per the rumors.

So… they’re going to make a generic action sci-fi show, in other words…

They also confirmed a shift away from made-for-streaming movies (like Section 31). Theatrical releases and major IP are the studio’s focus with the goal to “strategically scale the amount of content for our streaming service as well.”

Have the Star Trek films every done particularly well in theaters?

Generally speaking, I think they’ve done pretty well? Still. I think Star Trek is more geared towards series, because it’s about the people more than the generic action…

I don’t know, maybe I’m just skeptical for no reason… I just… have a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach… I mean, more than I already have because of… you know.
