Did Somebody Say "Star Trek"?

They do give background on who the Empress is and where she comes from. And some information on what Section 31 is.

Opinionated opinion:

I found the movie lacking. The script wasn’t good and the direction wasn’t either. They really missed the mark with what should have been a great franchise.

I’m familiar with the DS9 appearance, and I’ve seen season 1 of Discovery so I’ll risk it. Thanks!

And probably no more BIPOC captain and ExO…

OMG… just watched this. Not to yuck others’ yum, but this felt like the ST franchise folks wanted in on the what the SW franchise were doing with The Apprentice/Boba Fett/Skeleton Crew viz. poor writing, poor production investment, general half or quarter bakedness, etc.

So, I love Michelle Yeoh. LOVE. With all my heart. Since the early 80’s when to see her movies you had to hang out in the back of a Chinese grocery to rent the bootleg VHS tapes. I have all her movies, even the one she’s in for like 5 minutes and the rest is about little kids who get their kung fu powers from magic breast milk.

Now I haven’t kept up with ST:D after they killed her off. I know they brought her back Mirror Universe evil but by that time I just couldn’t get caught up. Still, I excitedly pirated the Section 31 movie last night with the intention of watching it today.

Then I read the reviews.

I’m not even going to waste my time watching it. Worse than the Borderlands movie? How is that even possible? Delete.

She was fantastic in Disco when she crossed over from the mirror verse.

I was originally going to abbreviate Disco as we do STNG etc; but thought better of it.

Watched it last night. It was fun. i can appreciate it as its own little area of Star Trek. It definitely has a Guardians of the Galaxy sort of vibe about it.

Yeah… I buy the Guardians feel, and noticed that. I would not get anyone’s hopes up for goofy repartee, though.

Visually, it reminded me a little smidge of The Fifth Element… only with less soul.

Yeah, the Fifth Element is a good call – it definitely had a bit of that as well. Never cared for that movie, personally, but for some reason i enjoyed this. I think it’s because i really enjoy Michelle Yeoh.
