Democrats brought the voters complex, nuanced, information and policies, but those of us who would be attracted to such were mostly already voting for Democrats. We did not need to be persuaded. The Republicans, on the other hand, brought them “Black woman bad, Trump good” and “immigrants are eating your pets!” The dems don’t need to go to the same level of ignorance, but recognizing that they’re not fighting under the same rules anymore would be great.

The whole thing is so dumb. What organization is the largest employer in the US? Yeah, the federal government, by far.

Cut the federal government workforce by 10-20% and you think that won’t crash the economy? Nothing would crash it faster than that.

I do think they need simpler language that packs an emotional punch. There’s a reason why online searches for the meaning of fascism and oligarchy spike after Democrats in leadership positions speak. The masses don’t understand and it feeds into why the GOP says liberal elites are the problem.

I only remember what she typed, and I generally remember stuff well.

I think a lot of how successful politicians are in their messaging is explained by that classic Maya Angelou quote:

“I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”

No political message, no matter how good and well-reasoned, will be successful if it doesn’t strike an emotional chord. I think that’s one of the reasons that Trump has had some success: he definitely makes his fans/followers/cultists feel something. Even if that something is mostly hate and an irrational rage at society, minorities, immigrants, “elites,” etc.

I’m old too, but Mark is the youngster of this group and he’s 60.

Please dems, understand that for the first time in over a hundred years there are a lot more people below 50 than above. And they are generally progressive but they are highly disillusioned of any leader doing things for them.
