Every last one of those “I voted for Trump because of the economy!” people is going to be disappointed, betrayed, and in a lot of cases seriously screwed up by the mess Trump will make.
I have approximately zero sympathy for any of them, but I hope they’ll have enough sense of self-preservation that they’ll vote differently come the midterms.
I am not a political analyst, and I would feel disingenuous dissecting the Harris (or Trump) campaigns, because I feel like this has been the Dunning-Kruger Olympics for takes, where pundits compete to rationalize and intellectualize events in an attempt to ward off the very thing that has buried us in red: a shared powerlessness and desperation.
And yet, I hear the sound of a nail being smacked firmly on the head…
Oh my god, that would be amazing… I’ll settle for Musk wearing out his welcome with Trump and getting pushed out of his orbit, sooner rather than later!
Jimmy Kimmel had some interesting / funny takes on that, Melania’s lack of involvement, and choices for cabinet. Marco Rubio really got the skewering he deserves:
The idea of continuing a rally schedule was interesting, too. I guess Dear Leader is concerned that his base might start paying attention to facts instead of continuing to only believe what he says in person. Will he sell them tickets, too, or find a way to make attendance mandatory to ensure yuge crowd sizes?
In order of decreasing like:
Woodrow Wilson, Salmon Chase, James Madison, Grover Cleveland, William McKinley, Benjamin Franklin, Ulysses Grant, Andrew Jackson, Alexander Hamilton, Abraham Lincoln, George Washington.
According to the AP, the total number of votes for president just topped 150M. That’s still 8M short of 2020. There isn’t much reporting left to do. There’s maybe 3 million more votes outstanding.
The good news is that the Dems clawed back on House seat from the GOP. That’s without a final call on our local House seat that’s going to be a win for Janelle Bynum. So that’s 2 seats. The bad news is that they need to win pretty much every uncalled House seat to have a majority, and some of those don’t look good.
I have a proposal. I want to do an informal audit of where these missing votes are from. My method would be to go to each state’s election website and track down their official numbers relative to 2020. If there are fewer votes for the state in 2024, look at that state’s 5 most populous counties and compare them to 2020. I can’t do this alone - I have a day job - so I’m wondering if there are a few people who want to help out and crowdsource this effort. If there is interest, I’ll start a new thread and we can divvy up states and start crunching numbers. If there is interest, I’ll post a link to the new thread below on this thread.
