As a German colleague of mine would say, “The cow is already on the ice.”
Then again, as a different colleague (from Philly) responded: “This is America. We get our truck, lasso the cow and drag it’s ass off the ice.”

“…without checking the thickness of the ice, as a truck weighs more than a cow.”
Respectfully, how nice for you if you really can (afford to?) do that. For a LOT of other people, including outside the US, Tromp’s re-ascendency to power is already disastrous, and all too impossible to ignore. (And I don’t think there’s nothing at all that privileged people can do to help at least lessen some of the damage.)
I don’t know that I can afford it, but I’m going to do my best to.
What I’m not going to do is spend all day on reddit’s politics threads, or ingesting the constant slurry of drama from news organizations complaining about what he did/said, since those same news organizations are exactly why he is there. The mental stress of that last time, plus the pandemic, nearly broke me. I’m not letting him do that again.
His cabinet picks are clueless morons being placed there because they kissed the ring and nothing else. They will last until they are no longer useful and then be replaced with the next one, and so on. He had hundreds of people turnover in his first year of his first term before, and I fully expect it will go just as well this time.
Sorry, I meant to post this here. If there’s interest in crowdsourcing an audit, I will post the link on both threads.
Yeah, but it’s a Cybertruck.
See you in four years.
If the dems somehow manage to get the House, that would really comforting and mildly hilarious.
If you think about it, it makes perfect sense when you apply Trump Logic™. Under the DHS umbrella are agencies that control who and what are allowed into the country like ICE, CBP, INS, and TSA. Trump considers almost anybody entering the country to be animals, vermin, scum, or invaders. QED, Noem should lead DHS since she is notorious for killing animals.
It’s not going to happen. Republicans are 1 seat away from having a majority, and there’s at least 3 uncalled races that are heavily tipping R. The only comfort I take is that the R majority will be so thin that it may end up being a (somewhat) moderating force because they can’t afford to lose a single vote by swinging too far toward the extreme right. And if they do fuck it all up when they have a trifecta, they will pay for it in 2026.
“I’ll take ‘Mythical Concepts’ for $500, Alex!”
I think there’s is some, but also that it’s as simple as “Phew, no prison time for me!”
Plus, “Oh, you love me? Great, get over here!” versus “Oh, you’re not willing to put me above yourself and everything you believe in? Fuck off, you’re dead to me.”
Casey had until noon to waive an automatic recount in the race with Republican Dave McCormick. The incumbent Democrat trails by roughly 30,000 votes statewide.
I don’t think his logical thinking process goes much beyond, “what can I do right now that will benefit me in this moment” but there is a process behind it. With the bulk of his appointments thus far the train of thought is, “this person has been loyal to me, therefore because I am a transactional person I will give them a cushy position in my cabinet, until they do something I don’t like” like Gatez or Noem. Or, “I like the way this person looks, and because they look the part I will give them a part fitting their looks”. Like his SecDef appointment. I mean FFS he picked Mattis last time around just because his nickname was “mad dog”.
This part caught my attention:
Casey trails McCormick by nearly 30,000 votes, a margin wide enough that a recount would be unlikely to change the outcome of the race. However, the Department of State said Wednesday, roughly 80,000 ballots statewide have not yet been counted, though many of those may be rejected.
80,000!?! WTH
Leave it to Teen Vogue to speak truth to power…
Rhetorical question, surely, but obviously the answer is approximately 70% of voters. Bonehead-level stupid strategy courting this tiny fragment of voters. Women of voting age are around 50% of voters (sick of our rights to be counted as human persons threatened), LGBTQ+ are nearly 10% (sick of their right to merely exist being threatened) and then there are men who don’t completely suck (you’re not exactly “woke” per se, but you know shit has gone pear-shaped).
It’s beyond time to pander to the people who actually vote for progress.
I wonder when Trump will set up the Volksgerichtshof?
He’s going to need it if he wants to retry the Central Park 5.
