In order of decreasing like:
Woodrow Wilson, Salmon Chase, James Madison, Grover Cleveland, William McKinley, Benjamin Franklin, Ulysses Grant, Andrew Jackson, Alexander Hamilton, Abraham Lincoln, George Washington.
Melania only shows up for Justin Trudeau.
Careful, my assumption is that the entire Social Security fund will be converted into crypto currency. “So that every American can win”
It is true that the famous photo of her kissing him is the only one I remember in which she seems to be wearing a genuine smile.
That’s not fair.
She also seemed smitten by Emmanuel Macron.
Update on voting numbers:
According to the AP, the total number of votes for president just topped 150M. That’s still 8M short of 2020. There isn’t much reporting left to do. There’s maybe 3 million more votes outstanding.
The good news is that the Dems clawed back on House seat from the GOP. That’s without a final call on our local House seat that’s going to be a win for Janelle Bynum. So that’s 2 seats. The bad news is that they need to win pretty much every uncalled House seat to have a majority, and some of those don’t look good.
I have a proposal. I want to do an informal audit of where these missing votes are from. My method would be to go to each state’s election website and track down their official numbers relative to 2020. If there are fewer votes for the state in 2024, look at that state’s 5 most populous counties and compare them to 2020. I can’t do this alone - I have a day job - so I’m wondering if there are a few people who want to help out and crowdsource this effort. If there is interest, I’ll start a new thread and we can divvy up states and start crunching numbers. If there is interest, I’ll post a link to the new thread below on this thread.
She likes tall, dark and not Donald.
I wonder if she’ll spend any time at the White House this time? Not likely. Though they should put up her Christmas decorations for Halloween.
Oh how I wish Biden was grinning like that because he knows something very significant that Tromp doesn’t.
Please let it be some mpox left in the bedroom.
he knows the fallout of rump doesn’t affect him and could not care less.
Wow, that’s completely unfair. If there is one thing we know about Joe Biden after the last 4 years is that he genuinely cares for people - especially the ones who will be hurt most by a second T**** term.
FWIW, I have a contact at the ACLU and I specifically suggested that this would be worth looking into for them.
I submitted a tip to ProPublica about it. That said, this isn’t something I’m willing to count on other people to do. It’s fair to say I’m stuck in the denial phase of mourning, at least for now, but it’s helpful for me to focus on this thing at least part time to help me process these events. Otherwise, it will be bugging me for a long time.
I will agree is probably unfair, but also that he cares much more about “the forms” than “the people”. This is a consistent trait among most old school democrats. They think the following the proper forms will make everything right eventually. It will not. He could have done much more.
I still disagree with your assessment. I was surprised and delighted by how genuine Biden has been as president. I was very much expecting what you describe, and he’s overcome those expectations. He still has a blind spot for bipartisanship, and that is a fair criticism. What isn’t is that he’s somehow stuck in tradition. He’s completely defied tradition in so many ways. The biggest scar on his presidency has been his complete mishandling of Israel.
Of course he could have done so much more. That is quite literally the definition of American presidency. Presidents have to operate within the limits of the system of checks and balances, have to navigate Congress and the courts and even their own party. But the president you are describing, that we were expecting, could have done so much less. He did a lot more than people give him credit for. I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying it: Biden had the most progressive term in office since LBJ, maybe since FDR. We might have wanted more but he gave more than anyone expected.
Interesting, Il Douche gets denied in his choice for majority leader.
Yes. HCR wrote last night as if that’s a BFD.
The backdrop for today’s news is that Republicans in the Senate will vote by secret ballot tomorrow for a new Senate majority leader. That person will control the Senate calendar, deciding what measures will be taken up by the Senate for consideration and thus wielding power over Trump’s legislative plans.
Trump and his sidekick Elon Musk, along with MAGA leaders and influencers, are backing Florida senator Rick Scott, who has signaled a willingness to do whatever Trump wants. Senators John Thune (R-SD) and John Cornyn (R-TX) are also staunch party members but are not as closely associated with the MAGA faction of the party.
MAGA control of the Senate is at stake, and Trump and his team are pushing their extremist agenda so aggressively it will be impossible for Senate Republicans to pretend they didn’t know what was at stake if they vote to empower the MAGAs…
Trump’s demonstration of his plans just before Senate Republicans have to choose their leader seems an attempt to jam those who might stand against him into his camp. And yet, the Framers of the Constitution believed that the Senate would be the key guardrail to stop the rise of an autocrat who would destroy democracy and install himself as a king. They expected that the determination of senators to guard their own power would protect the nation.
Almost two hundred and fifty years into their experiment, we’re about to find out if they were right.
However you look at it - it’s still a freight train full of deplorables.
A basket is so 2016.
Maimed at work because of deregulation? You voted for this.
Friends or family members being deported? You voted for this.
Seeing your affordable care get taken away? You voted for this.
Is the cost of everything going up because of tariffs? You voted for this.
Who’s responsible?
YOU FUCKING ARE!
