Elections 2023-2024

Can’t shake this feeling, though

I want to be wrong. I don’t want there to be some fundamental insecurity in our election systems that could result in miscounting on this order of magnitude.

I will stop until we get final counts in the next couple of days. Then we’ll see one way or another.

Getting a little sick of these pundits opining that Trump won because Harris ran bad ads or didn’t articulate her policies well enough or didn’t reach across the aisle enough to appeal to Trump voters or whatever.

Trump didn’t win because the Democrats didn’t do enough to explain why a Harris administration would be preferable to a fascist state. Trump won because more than half of American voters decided they want to live in a fascist state. Ain’t no easy fix for that.

I can’t get behind his complete exoneration of the voters, as though it was a really hard, soul-searching decision whether to vote for the sane, normal candidate or the criminal fascist thug. He can bellow all he likes about how Harris didn’t address peoples’ concerns, but neither did Trump. Barely-coherent word salad lies are not addressing anything, and people should know better than to believe them. They’ve been there before. They know who he is and what he will do and no “sane, rational” person should be under the illusion he’s going to improve anything. There is zero excuse for people not getting behind Harris and I’m not buying what he’s selling.

What’s more, I maintain that Trump voters don’t actually care about the things they claim to care about anyway.

  • They claimed they were concerned about Biden’s age and mental fitness, then they nominated the clearly unfit guy who set the record for “oldest person ever elected POTUS” eight years ago.
  • They claimed they wanted to hear more about Harris’ policies, but they ignored her detailed policy proposals in lieu of taking Trump at his word that higher tarrifs would fix everything.
  • They claimed to care about the economy, but ignored all data showing most measures of economic activity were better under Biden than Trump.
  • They claimed to fear government overreach, but have been cheering Trump’s plans to use the full force of the Federal government to take personal vengeance on his percieved enemies.

The list goes on and on.

“Harris lost this election because she didn’t work hard enough to address the concerns of Trump voters” is absolute horseshit.

Shitty, but true enough; considering that a lot of fucking people who could have didn’t vote at all.

Like I told my chiropractor this afternoon: it was racism, misogyny and the fact that a whole helluva lot of folks want to ‘sink’… especially if sinking means someone they dislike drowns before they do.

:rage:

This!

It’s a bad-faith argument trying to absolve the voters, and especially the people who sat out the election, from their responsibility. No American has the excuse of not knowing who and what Trump is, not after his first presidential term, his coup attempt, and a shitty campaign full of rampant bigotry and lies.

And straight out media complicity. Even the ‘leftist’ (and increasingly horrified) channels like MSNBC have been doing their part in sanewashing TFG, and minimising the depths of the horror in Project 2025 by reporting straight bullshit like “but it’s not really connected with the campaign” and “Trump denied involvement” and other such obvious bald faced lies as if they were plausible.

And that’s the ‘sceptical’ media, the ones who weren’t openly carrying water for the fascist movement (if not actively part of it).

As far as I could see, all the real analysis of P2025, all the people who had read it, and taken it seriously, and understood the references, and noted who the people were, were all off in the socials, where they were actively suppressed by Meta (farcebook and insta) and the Nazi Bar on X. They didn’t get on to the panel shows, and those who did had to share the time with “oh I’m sure it’s not that bad” and “it probably won’t go anywhere” and “stop being such a conspiracy theorist snowflake”.

The fascists told us what they were planning. They told us in detail, with footnotes and a bibliography. And the media lied to everyone’s faces and told us it was too outrageous to be true. Except for the fascist media who told us that it was too outrageous to be true wink.

When the history of this is written up, I want the Media’s complicity to get a couple of chapters.

I personally know at least two gun strokers who voted for Turmp because they fear the Liberal Conspiracy is eager to take their gunz. And another who was sure that DJT in his first term was trolling the left-wing media with his supposed incompetence, and that Turmp would stun everyone with his brilliance in his last year of office. That guy is too heavily invested in the stupidity to back down now.

Speaking as a long-time stoic: This is not a time for crying or fear. The simple fact is that we are now stuck in this mess, and the only way out is to keep moving forward while staying below the radar of the emboldened nutjobs.

Defenders & advocates are going to have their hands full — and coffers drained — during the next 4 years. They will need the support of everyone who can afford to help in any way.

And any non-destructive, non-incriminating roadblocks that can be put up against the agendas of Turmp & Proj. 2025 will be good.

It’s going to be frustrating and fatiguing, but keep your heads down and keep moving forward.

You got to it before I could. This song has been on repeat ever since I was a kid, from what I know. Civil rights movement be damned.

My daughter was one of the (apparently many) voters who got caught in the “Cure Needed” part of the system. In Indiana, they are legally required to contact the voter writhin 2 business days to let them know. They did not. We have emailed them (so there’s a ‘written’ record) to ask about next steps.

In my relatively small circle, I haven’t even asked around and yet I know of one other person this has happened to, and he is also in his 20s. Also, he works in the library of an elite university.

Is it enough to sway the election? Don’t know, but I also don’t know why millions of votes seem to have disappeared.

Interesting story i had assumed was just bullshit, but…
A coworker got an email from one of her higher-ups who daid he had been in Arizona working the election and “found 9000 fraudulent ballots” that he “locked up in a place no one but him can get to.” He claimed he was a “spy catcher” in the Army and would find out where they came from. It souned like BS when i read it, but now it’s got me thinking. But this gets to the heart of most huge conspiracy theorys, how do you keep it secret? I don’t know, still seems loony, but damn…

I’ve been watching a lot of Jimmy the Giant on YouTube recently, a charismatic guy who has gone through being indoctrinated by the alt-right, only to come out the other side wiser and humbler.

He’s made some great videos about how he fell for the rhetoric, how he broke out of it, and subsequently has made some absolutely fantastic videos on the Post War Consensus and the rise of Thatcher.

Watching him has reminded me that we need people like Clement Atlee and Nye Bevan more than ever, as well as offering me the glimmer of hope that people might just start ignoring the demagogues and robber barons and start helping themselves, in the same way Welsh miners did with the Caerphilly Miner’s Hospital.
No-one else was giving them the healthcare they needed, so they all contributed to buying and setting up a hospital themselves. Atlee and Bevan then expanded on this idea and used it as the basis for the NHS and the greater welfare state, where taxpayers’ money built the NHS and social housing, as well as the utilities. That way, it was the taxpayer that owned all of it, and any profit went back into the system to improve it.
Collectivism doesn’t need the government, and a wise one will leverage it to make life better for everyone.

Exactly, he’ll use State National Guard Troops, Border control agents, ATF agents, etc. Michael Flynn’s brother, also a general was exiled to the Pacific Fleet. I’m sure he’ll be returned to Washington for Trumpy’s shitty encore.
