Elections 2025-2026

Considering how many conservative sites are going full bore against Mamdani, I’m guessing he’s a good candidate.

Plus, I honestly have no idea why anyone would vote for Cuomo, considering his immediate political past…although I guess all I have to do is look at the current Occupant of the WH.

I would laugh, but he probably did.

Watching this now… what strikes me is that this shows what is possible with ranked choice voting. That people can work strategically to support good policy rather than the popularity contest elections have far too often become.

50% rule- so final results not likely till next week. But Coumo is looking very weak.

Though my tv says that either of these candidates could run in the general on a different party.

Looks like Cuomo conceded:

The Mamdani win will hopefully make the Dem party move away from its current slide towards reactionary “centrism” as a response to losing to Trump.

Hey - guess what didn’t work. Again.

Throwing trans people under the bus will not win elections for democrats.

If Cuomo doesn’t do well after the full ranked results come in, it looks like he may not run as an Independent. Fingers crossed!

I’m trying to remember what the Torah says about accessible public transit and rent control.

“ Some of the opposition is undoubtedly rooted in New York’s distinctive brand of Islamophobia that has lingered and often surfaced since the 2001 terror attacks. Mamdani is bidding to become New York’s first Muslim mayor and has labelled Israel’s conduct in Gaza as “genocide,” while facing attacks for pro-Palestinian statements he made in college. He’s also faced death threats and racist verbal attacks. That banner flying over the Hudson on Sunday read “SAVE NEW YORK FROM GLOBAL INTIFADA REJECT MAMDANI.”

The absurd and offensive notion that Mamdani is antisemitic was demolished in a powerful essay by New York’s current-best independent pro-democracy journalist, Marisa Kabas, who is Jewish and who wrote that “it boils down to the same problem that has pervaded nearly every conversation since October 7th: conflating antisemitism and anti-zionism.” Such attitudes still permeate the elite ranks of the Democratic Party despite a persuasive case that failure to address the Gaza carnage hurt them in the 2024 election, badly.

What’s more, the antisemitism charges feel like a crutch for the real fears of elites who cling to a brand of capitalism that is failing many urban residents, but especially Gen Z.”

A jewish… state? Like within the US? Y’all are already free to move to Israel if the prospect of the wrong ethnicity of American holding office in our own country bothers you so much.

I am absolutely giddy over the complete meltdown the right is having over this result. Cry harder, MAGAts!

“Who will liberate us from our democratically elected leaders? I think they are busy liberating CA! NYC is clearly doomed!” :man_facepalming: I will agree with the fascists on one thing. Democracy just doesn’t work for them.

ETA: I have to say, the ongoing overperformance of progressive Dems in the most recent primaries and specials gives me more hope for the VA state general in Nov. We need to absolutely evict every damned MAGAt pol in every office we can.
