I want to read that as a GROK response.
Seconded. If fascists don’t show up, Antifa seems to not show up either. They seem to have actual lives and stuff.
A non-profit. Musk decided to take them literally.
I always read GROK in Hal-9000’s voice.
Another Starship explosion, this time on the ground as it was undergoing a static fire test. Considering how well other SpaceX rockets have been performing, it’s clear to me that this one has some fundamental and serious design problem.
I heard somewhere that Starship is SpaceX’s Cybertruck - an Elno pet project that probably should not have been pursued. Any reliable sources on that one?
ETA: here are the fireworks. Note that they happen before ignition. The rocket is simply being loaded with fuel and oxidizer here. I’m going to shamelessly refer to a remark of mine up-thread, where Elno was seriously proposing to have crew loaded before the fuel. Don’t do that, kids. This is why.
I don’t have any sources to share, but yeah, I’ve heard the same thing. It’s part of his Mars obsession, and his insistence on it being so big and reusable makes it a very, very difficult engineering problem, and kind of pointless for most purposes.
I don’t believe I appreciated how difficult the engineering problem was until my son started playing Kerbal Space Program, and we discovered just how difficult it is to get into orbit.
WhooHoo! So much more data!
You and your kid are just not as l33t gamers as he (and his peons) are! He got the idea from playing Kerbal Space Program! His team totes solved that so real life is a breeze.
Guess we’re not making it to Mars in 2026.
Also, good analysis by Scott Manley:
Funny you mention that…
DOGE mastermind Elon Musk took the recent No Kings protests in the US as the latest opportunity to reinforce his gamer cred with his followers on X, and once again his need for approval has blown up in his face.
- “Does he know what shit ended up happening in the end with Andrew Ryan’s dream?” - Andrianwill-87
- “We have come full circle. Where once we had people quoting Ayn Rand thinking they were the new John Galt (especially young men), now we have billionaires quoting Bioshock thinking they are the next Andrew Ryan. Praise be to the cycle, for it shows the pure idiocy of dudes with money they have never earned.” - hunkaliciousnerd
Going to Mars in 2026?
A crewed landing on the Moon in this decade won’t happen. Unless China does it.
I learned a lot from watching Scott Manley explain Kerbal Space Program.
Also a game I played before KSP called Osmos has a few levels that involve orbits. I picked up some very basic concepts through trial and error.
Just checked and I still have it on my phone.
I never got the hang of the orbital levels.
