“When the Cybertruck came out, I watched the live event that night, and my wife was sitting there going, ‘No. No. No,’” said Filipos, who lives in a suburb of Philadelphia and whose last name is being withheld for fear of online retribution. Despite his wife’s disapproval, Filipos loved the bulky trapezoidal truck.

There’s a lot more to the article, but I hope this guy at least learned to listen to his wife, who clearly has more common sense. Good for him for admitting fault and getting rid of his monstrosity, too, though if he was still a Tesla fan late enough to buy a Cybertruck, he clearly wasn’t paying much attention to the world around him.

Exactly.

Most people who follow the news have been hating Elon for a number of years.

Still, it sounds like he’s getting rid of his Cybertruck because of genuine disgust at Musk’s actions, rather than simple fear that he’ll be shamed or vandalized, so his worst crimes seem to be awful taste and airheaded obliviousness. Better late than never, and better a dopey guy with a good heart than a proud and deliberate fascist.

It’s weird how long it’s taking tech-dude-bros to realize Musk is a complete and total putz. He’s been one for a fucking while and the fact that it’s taken THIS to get some of these guys to wake the fuck is is annoying as shit.

Also, THE FUCKING GOVERNMENT IS NOT A GOD DAMN BUSINESS, CAN YOU PRIVILEGE BLIND ASSHOLES GET THAT THROUGH YOUR GOD DAMN SKULLS… (not you, obvs, but Woz and whatever other Silicon valley sort still think that they know better than the rest of us).

I blame the capitalist myth that being rich means you’re smarter/better than the average bear, and therefore someone to be idolized or emulated. Even some of those pissed at what he’s doing now still defend his status as a self-made genius. They refuse to admit he was born on third base and a lot of his “genius” ideas were absolute shit. They act like they’re being personally attacked, really putting the fanatic into their position as his fans.

I’m someone who generally doesn’t follow or care about famous people unless they affect the lives of those I care about in some way. Now Elno is having an affect on me and mine. I ask his fans, “Do you think someone with all he has cares about you…not as much as you care about him, but at all? If so, what makes you think that?” :woman_shrugging:t5:

Yeah, I recently overheard some youngling parroting the GOP talking points about bloat/waste and throwing around figures on how many people are employed by the government. They never consider how the numbers correspond to the population or that most agencies were understaffed. He probably never had to deal with anything beyond state-level headaches like the DMV. So, I silently wished him a future filled with excessive red tape - automated call encounters where he never reaches a person, websites that don’t function, long lines at offices or entry into any federal facility/land, etc… Can’t wait for them to hit the FO stage. :imp:

Agreed with all of that!

There are far too many narratives that people just sort of accept uncritically - a byproduct of the hegemonic processes explicated by ye ole commie Gramsci. The ideology of capitalism in general, and techno-neo-liberalism is the current iteration of that, reality be damned. But I think we’re seeing the cracks in that narrative too. A non-insignificant counter-narrative is being deployed in some tech circles or among some who are aligned with that community historically (cory doctorow, Ed Zitron - life-long tech lovers). As shit gets worse, people do seek out reasons for that, and some will be swayed by the “if we get rid of woke, immigrants, and restraints on corporations, all will flourish” while others will demand better, more inclusive solutions to these issues. Cause, you know, that’s HARD, and might make some people with privilege slightly uncomfortable…

And I do think there is some on the left who would also prefer the easier solution - fucking tankies, looking to bring back Stalinism! But, fuck that!

Elon Musk brought a gaming PC to the White House, and it looks kind of puny

  • Musk brought a gaming PC to his office at the Secretary of War suite in the Eisenhower Building
  • Despite a massive gaming monitor, the PC itself looks a bit weak
  • Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency initiative includes gaining access to federal agencies

I’ll believe it when he’s out on his ass, frankly. We keep seeing people like the Lincoln project post these kind of predictions and the media getting in on this feeding frenzy of gossiping about Mumps, and nothing so far.

President Donald Trump convened his Cabinet in person on Thursday to deliver a message: You’re in charge of your departments, not Elon Musk.

According to two administration officials, Trump told top members of his administration that Musk was empowered to make recommendations to the departments but not to issue unilateral decisions on staffing and policy.

All the money in the world and can’t even get a nice PC.

Also never mind the security implications of some random PC being plugged into government networks like this.

I’m sure it had nothing to do with Musk losing $100B net worth in one week and Tesla taking a nose dive.

Oh, and the pure, raw hatred everyone, red and blue, have for him.

Oh, I totally believe that this happened - I don’t think it’s a lie or anything, but far too many times, these kind of reports have been taken as evidence of a crack in the Trump-Musk partnership, and I’ve yet to see any of come to that sort of logical conclusion. Until Trump is acting like he never was thick as thieves with Musk, and Musk is working to get Trump out of office, I’m not gonna get my hopes up.
