Elon Musk Destroys Everything

You’ve described my manager’s manager at Rocketdyne during my early years there. First chance he got (when my direct manager went on vacation), he directed me to modify (to his never defined liking) how I would present the design for a new test system and beyond what was technically acceptable and already understood by all. After wasting time ginning up a concept then taking a crack at an alternative rendering of the system, he looked at it, went “hmm”, offered a bit more of his wisdom, then said it needed more work. I left it as is for my direct to look at. He saw it. His omg reaction was predictable. “Why!?” he said. Me: “Gerry ordered me to.” Then my direct, in disgust, said something unintelligible. Then, “show me what you had before”. I showed it. Him: “Good. Run with it.” After that, I took great pains to never show the other manager any of my stuff.

It seems like a weird assumption that Musk’s party would be the fascist one while the Republicans would revert to the relative sanity of a decade ago rather than there just being, y’know, two fascist parties. Do they think Trump and his MAGA crowd are going to join a party that was made explicitly because of Musk’s dislike of him, or that they’re going to give up fascism? No, it’d just be two flavors of competing fascism, while Democrats would continue to be the feckless Republican-lite party.

ETA: Also, I doubt Musk’s party would survive long. It’s a two party system trying very hard to be a ONE party system already, and Musk doesn’t have the charisma Trump does (ugh, if you can even call it that).

Musk used to have a surprising amount of cachet and it’s hard to say if he understands any of what happened to it. But he can’t be the candidate anyway. He would have to find someone else he thinks can represent him, and then not undermine them by constantly stealing the spotlight for his own inanity.

AFAICT, that take is nearly completely reality-free.

The positive thing, if we can call it such, is that nobody else in the GOP seems to have it either. Once Trump goes, and may it be sooner rather than later, there’s no clear successor to him, nobody who can take over the cult of personality. His failsons are fatheaded losers; nobody likes Vance, not even the people puppeteering him; and all the prominent Republicans are incompetent loser lickspittles.

Your first gif implies that you’d rather Mosk not start a third party? If so, I’m just wondering why? (Since splitting the right’s vote seems like a good thing… and I doubt he’d “attract disillusioned Democrats”…)

So he’s not using dealerships?

It’ll be interesting to see how his party and twitter interact with campaign contribution limits and reporting requirements- he’s going to promote it extensively on shitter.

They kind of glossed over the fact that the way he said “both parties have failed” was a white nationalist dogwhistle.

also noted in that language of having “tried red and blue parties”, that must mean that Leon is proposing his party should be labeled “White?”
in addition to the dogwhistle you mention, ot seems mr. skunk is selling a whites-only political party?

edit: @Millie_Fink gets it.

A few of reasons, really.

First, I don’t think it’s gonna derail the GOP, as I think if they win any seats, they’ll just do what other independents on the right do, and caucus with the GOP anyway. Nothing changes for the case of voting, I don’t think.

Second, it’s just another grift on his part, and possibly just a kind of kayfabe - there isn’t actually any real animosity between Trump and Musk, maybe, but it’s just them acting like it, in order to give right-leaning, but trump hating voters a party to vote for that will just end up caucusing with the GOP…

Third, he might well pick up some moderate independents and even conservative democrats. Probably not a lot, but it is still a possibility. I have not forgotten Ro Khanna proclaiming that democrats need to woo musk… Despite all the dumb ass shit musk has done some people just refuse to let go of him as being some sort of fucking genius…

Last… I’m honestly just sick of Musk. I kind of just want him to…

YMMV of course, but that’s my own thinking on it…

Yeah, that would track…

She does indeed!

He could run for governor, at least in CA… :face_with_raised_eyebrow: But it wouldn’t shock me in the least, if he tried to run for POTUS anyway.
