Fall of the Fourth Estate: A Critique of Mass Media

Well, the Star Wars thing even included media complicit in the fascist propaganda, so . . . yeah, it’s exactly what’s happening.

In some ways, it’s hard to watch season 2 of Andor and believe that it wasn’t written since January, but it’s a big production with a lot of special effects, so it was obviously written at least 2 years ago. It includes not only that media propaganda, but raids on illegal immigrants, lies about victims of state violence making them look like bad guys, damn near everything that is going on right now. What it really shows is that nothing that’s happening right now in our world is new. This is shit straight out of the fascist/authoritarian playbook, and it’s shit that’s been done forever. The frustrating part is how many people who should know better can’t, or won’t, see it.

Yep…

Some people are seeing how they can benefit from it. Also, sadly, nothing new.

The problem with the US media landscape, in a nutshell, is that it has slid so far to the right that The Guardian is considered hard left. The Graun ffs. A paper that went all-in panic mode to try and destroy a mild social-democratic Labour leadership so everything could go back to machine centrism.

The reason, of course, that the likes of AP (centrist) and The New York TImes (liberal) are lumped on that end is the left hand column would be basically empty if they didn’t shift a bunch of stuff over there and flesh it out with tiny outlets like Jacobin, which scale-wise is nowhere near even OAN.

Putting together these silly little charts ends up dishonest because doing them accurately - with zero major outlets calling for either socialism or communism - would be an admission of exactly how lopsided the media conversation really is, courting accusations that the makers themselves are Reds.

Freedom Press would be off the scale of the left wing on that chart, as you would expect from a news source founded by Peter Kropotkin.

Most of the actual leftist journalism in the US is local and urban.

Healthier habits? The head of HHS swims in contaminated water and handles / eats roadkill. There are multiple members of the regime who don’t believe in basic hygiene:

Yet somehow, these nasty folks think they’ll outlive the rest of us - because of their beliefs. In addition to public health costs we’ll have to pay to restore programs they destroyed, there will probably be an added expense for disinfecting all of their offices.

For these types of people, healthy habits are those conspiracy theories like using coffee enemas or bleach. Eating healthy means using unrefined salt, no fluoride, and eating meat and animal fat until your arteries explode.

They have the NYT Opinions as far left? Have they heard of David Brooks? I mean, he did finally realize Trump is a fascist, but he’s otherwise a right wing conservative. Like . . . he describes himself as a conservative.

Further in thread they call it liberal, left is for the chart only. But yeah, still not.

Yeah. A lot of people needed a break after the election. People were tired. The resistance didn’t go anywhere. It was recharging.
