Fall of the Fourth Estate: A Critique of Mass Media

Hark at the armchair anarchist with his conveniently flexible definition of “the establishment”!

We need a facepalm and a headdesk emoji.

A glossary of parodic terms in op-eds and punditry:

Identity Politics: Pejorative for equal rights for anyone but cis white men.

Cancel Culture: The mythical banishment of shitheads.

Woke = Stolen from black culture and drained of meaning.

I’ve been hoping to see improvement and more collaboration among alternative news sources in response to increasing criticism of mass media for enabling the rise of the right:

We need at least one alternative to counter conservative/GOP domination of social media, radio, TV, and print sources:

I’m not that familiar with the Pacifica Foundation or stations, but plan to find out more:

Another on my list to check out is Free Speech TV:

I’d add “partisanship” to that list and translate it as “people objecting to fascists taking away their rights and lives”

Not even. WOKE means to them any empathy for outgroups, any questioning of the status quo, any appeal to facts or knowledge over authority, any acknowledgement that the world isn’t black and white, any acknowledgment of the shortcomings of “faith” and tradition… this can keep going because they don’t even know what fucking “woke” means.

Pacifica

Pretty sure that’s where Democracy Now! lives. I’ve listened to it for at least 15 years now. Amy Goodman is amazing.

I’ll have to check out more Pacifica programming.

I will never understand why, after 8 years of this, so many of these people continue to believe that Trump can be reasoned with and act rationally.

They are either willfully ignorant, or lying about that… Lots of people certainly seem to believe “it can’t happen here”…

Camps on the nightly news will ensure that public opinion destroys you

Did anyone that would be upset by camps actually vote for him? I don’t see it moving the needle much, if at all.

Trump actually did have concentration camps for children, and so far from destroying him, apparently even his critics had forgotten well before his term ended. Don’t allow cameras and the nightly news stops caring. :rage:

Fucking moron. Insurrection against the United States government didn’t “ruin him.” There is no line he will not cross. Idiots.

Speaking of idiots, the mainstream media are losing their shit about Biden pardoning Hunter. WTF? Where was this outrage when T**** was selling pardons to the highest bidder? Assholes.

Moreover, I’d do the same thing given the current environment. While I think Hunter did break the law and should face consequences, the MAGA shitheads definitely want his head on a pike. If I had the power to keep my (hypothetical deeply flawed) son out of their hands, I’d do it in a heartbeat.

Although, somehow I doubt a pardon will slow them down much when going after Hunter Biden.

The good news is that Biden no longer has to give a shit what the media says about him, so he can take the Trump approach to this: ignore it until it dies down. And it will. Trump will do or say something batshit in a few days and everyone will forget about Hunter Biden.

The Republicans won’t forget. I expect them to keep bringing up “what about Hunter Biden’s pardon?” all the time for the next four years just like they did his laptop and whatever happened at Benghazi. Not that I think the details of what actually happened have the slightest bearing on that, since they could have been invented anyway.

To what effect?
That’s not how they tick.
