Kyle Whitmire is one of the few journalists in Alabama doing the good work. He is leaving the state for DC. His op-ed says it’s for all the good reasons, that he’ll continue to report for AL.com, but this still seems … ominous.

No, not really. Much as they piss me off, that would a very high profile sacrifice and effectively silence the smaller outlets. But this is the world we live in now. Any hint of noncompliance is cause for retribution.
